Mrs. Bobby Jean “B.J.” Sims Reese Obituary

It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and members of the Sims and Reese families share the peaceful transition of Mrs. Bobby Jean Sims Reese. ”B.J.” as she was affectionately called passed early Sunday morning, December 3, 2023 at the residence of a niece following an illness. 

Funeral service is 1:00pm on Thursday, December 07, 2023 in Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. 


Mrs. Bobby Jean Sims Reese was born on May 6, 1961 in Darlington, South Carolina a daughter of the late Clarence and Lizzie Bell Frank Sims.  She entered into her eternal rest on Sunday morning, December 3, 2023 at the home of a niece, Patriece Sims in Dovesville, South Carolina.

Bobby Jean attended the Darlington County Public School System.  She joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church at an early age.  She later attended United Pentecostal Church of Christ and United Fellowship Christian Center.

She relocated to Chester, PA where she worked with Copper Enterprise.  She later relocated to Whiteville, NC where she was self-employed as a Child Care Provider for several years.  She later was employed at Smithfield Foods, Georgia-Pacific, Tops, W.E. Bailey, McDonald’s and Arby’s as a Custodian.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by  one sister, Pastor Maxine Bush and one brother, William Sims.

Her sister, Lizzie Sims was her Spiritual Partner in crime; her sister, Alice Sims was her Love bug; her nephew, Christopher Frank was her confident and her niece, Patriece Sims, who she affectionately called,  “Big Red” was very close.

She leaves her most cherished memories to her:  beloved children: daughter, Starlet Sims of Lumberton, NC and son, Stephone (Shankia) Sims of Dovesville, SC; five sisters: Overseer Patricia Ann Milling of Darlington, SC, Minister Lizzie Sims of Dovesville, SC, Loretta (Willie) Jackson of Bridgeport, CT, Margaret Sims of Darlington, SC and Alice Sims of Dovesville, SC; six brothers:  Alphonso Sims, Clarence Sims, Jr. both of Brooklyn, NY, Isaiah (Annie Ruth) Sims of Darlington, SC, Ronnie Sims of Hartsville, SC, James Sims of Dovesville, SC and Timothy Sims of Winston-Salem, NC; one aunt, Wakefield Frank of Brooklyn, NY; four grandchildren that she adored: Alyssa Sims, Gabriel Troy, Serenity Sims and Samayah Sims who she raised as her own; she was a god-mother to many children; a host of nieces, nephews that loved their auntie, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence of a niece, Ms. Patriece Sims, 3453 Charles Drive, Darlington (Dovesville Community)
