It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and members of the Lowe and Burns families announce the passing of Mrs. Bessie Lowe Burns, aka Jack Lowe of Darlington.  Mrs. Burns transitioned on Thursday evening, January 13, 2022 at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. 

A Celebration of Life will be 1:00PM on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at the Mt. Rona Baptist Church Cemetery. Interment will follow. Please adhere to mask wearing and social distancing while attending this service.

Mrs. Bessie Lowe Burns was born on Friday, September 15, 1944 in Darlington County, a daughter of Mr. Nathan, Sr. and Essie Mae McCall Lowe. She departed her earthly life on Thursday evening, January 13, 2021 at Carolina Pine Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. 

Bessie was educated in the public schools of Darlington County. She graduated from Rosenwald High School in Society Hill, SC, Class of 1961. 

“Jack Lowe” accepted Christ at a young age and joined Mt. Rona Baptist Church, where she served faithfully.  She was united in marriage to the Mr. Ernest Burns and this union was blessed with several children. Mrs. Bessie was a homemaker and took great care of her children and the rest of her family. To know her was to love her. 

Those left to cherish the many fond memories of Mrs. Bessie Lowe Burns are her children: Ronnie Lowe, James (Mary) Lowe, Ernest (Linda) Lowe, Tracy Burns, Graig (Samantha) Burns, Germaine (Yolanda) Burns, Donnie Burns, Harold Hudley, Mike Hudley, Naomi (Tirrone) George, Rosa Fowler, Berlinda Johnson, Patricia Lowe, Samantha Moses, Roberta Burns, Robin Heyward, Chastity (Dominic) Huff, and Tiesha Burns; Five children she reared as her own: Anzonio (Beth) Lowe, Priscilla Lowe, Stacy Burns, Jasmine Burns, and Tytana Burns; Forty-Eight Grandchildren; Seventy-One Great Grandchildren;  Three Great-Great Grandchildren; a brother, Nathan (Lena) Lowe, Jr.; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Patterson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. 

Bessie Lowe Burns was preceded in death by:  her parents: Nathan, Sr. and Essie Lowe; her husband, Ernest Burns; her children: Toni Burns, Stacy Burns, and Ruby Hudley; a granddaughter, Aaliyah Burns; and her siblings: Frank (Margaret) Lowe, Mary Lowe Hudley, and Willie Rose Gaskins.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence, 660 East Billy Farrow Highway, Darlington.
