It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the sudden passing of Mrs. Barbara Anne Richardson Mitchell of Blythewood, SC, formally of Darlington, SC. Mrs. Mitchell exchanged time for eternity on Friday, October 13, 2023 at her residence.
Funeral service is 1:00PM on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Macedonia Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
OBITUARY
MS. BARBARA ANNE RICHARDSON MITCHELL was the fourth of seven children born to the late James “Chunk” Richardson and Carrie “HoneBabe” Jones Richardson on August 10,1957 in Darlington, South Carolina. She peacefully departed this life on Friday, October 13, 2023 at her home in Blythewood, South Carolina.
MS. MITCHELL received her formal education in the Darlington County Public School System and was a graduate of Mayo High School Class of 1975. After graduating, She continued her education at Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina majoring in accounting. One of her proudest moments was when she received her License Practical Nursing certificate in 1980 from the South Florence Vocational School. From that time on she proudly wore that honor and served in her profession for 43 years. She was currently seeking her bachelors degree in nursing and was employed by Stone Veterans Pavilion at CM Tucker until her departure.
BARBARA enjoyed life to the fullest. She was a born-again believer in Jesus Christ and sought to do His will. She was a worshipper to heart and recently began fellowship with GraceLife Church in Columbia, South Carolina. Besides loving and doting on her grandchildren, she loved watching the Turkish Soap Operas, and had a deep love of basketball in and out of season. Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors were it! Barbara will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her precious memories are: her loving son: Robert Dominique (Angela) Peterson and children C.J., Anbernique, Alanna, and Amon all of Darlington SC; her devoted daughter: Teva (Kenyada) Player and children Ti’Aunte, Tiko, Daviyon, Da’Auna, Da’Khia and TaiLee all of Blythewood SC; sisters: Delores (Minister Sam ) Colclough, Marion (Anthony) Richardson and Lutisha Richardson all of Darlington SC; brothers: Glen Richardson of Shreveport LA, James “Cotton” Richardson of Darlington SC and Edward (Denise) Richardson of Charlotte NC; Stepmother, Anna Bertha Richardson; step-siblings: Bernard Addison, Ulysses Richardson, Herman (Cynthia) Richardson and Deborah Addison; an aunt, Evangelist Carrie L. Vann of Landover MD; godchildren: Quartell Jackson, Ka’Wayla Richarson, T’Kara Mathis, Da’Quan Alston, Faith Mills; and a host of nieces, nephews and family that will truly miss her.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Carolyn R. Mack and Lucretia R. Quick; a stepbrother, Cecil Richardson and a stepsister, Addie Richardson
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence of a granddaughter, Ti’Aunte Bethea, 227 Honey Hill Way, Blythewood, SC and the residence of a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Sam Colclough, 805 McCown Mill Pond Road, Darlington, SC.
