It is with profound sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and members of the Coward/Sansbury families announce the transition of Mrs. Agnes Coward Sansbury. Mrs. Sansbury exchanged time for eternity on Thursday. November 09, 2023 at a Florence hospital following an illness.
Funeral service is 1:00PM on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Center Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Hart No. 2 Cemetery.
Obituary
Mrs. Agnes Coward Sansbury was born in Darlington County, South Carolina on July 11, 1938, the daughter of Beulah McGill. She departed this life on Thursday, November 9, 2023 after an illness.
She received her formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools.
She was a faithful member of Center Baptist Church where she served on the Senior Missionary Society and the Usher Board.
Mrs. Agnes lived all of her life in Darlington County. She was a loving and sweet lady who was always the life of the party and loved helping others. She loved her family and was the glue that bind the family together. She will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew her.
She was united in marriage to the late Codell Sansbury, Sr.
In addition to her husband and mother, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Sadie March, Claudia Coward, Francena Ham and Aaron Coward; a grandson, Robert Kenard Moses.
Those left to cherish her memory are: three daughters: Bobbie Jean Fields and Willistine Burgess, both of Darlington, SC and Regina (JJ) Glenn of Florence, SC; four sons: L. J. Coward, Jerome Coward, Codell Sansbury, Jr. all of Darlington, SC and Melvin (Aubrey) Sansbury of Conway, SC; one grandson she reared as her own, Tony (Asia) Coward; eleven grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; a very special niece, Elaine (Edward) Damon; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will truly miss her.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence, 209 Chalmers Street, Darlington.
