Obituary
“For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heaven.” - 2 Corinthians 5:1
Mr. Woodrow McDaniel was born May 19, 1929, the youngest child of Otto and Martha Burrell McDaniel. His parents transitioned before he was 5 years old. He then went to live with a cousin in Florence, SC. for a short time. One of his cousins, Leonna Ham went to visit him and later returned and brought him home to be raise by her father and mother, Frank “Uncle Boss” and Annie “Aunt Sweeter” Burrell Ham, Sr. along with their children, granddaughter, and grandson. He was known in the Center Community by various names such as “Bobby Ham,” “Press,” and “Toney."
He was educated in the schools of Timmonsville, SC. and was gainfully employed by Clanton Auto Auction, later known as Manheim Auto of Darlington, SC. where he retired after more than 30 years.
Woodrow met the late Lois Jacobs who had a daughter, Annie Ruth Jacobs Howard, now of Victorville, CA. They were united in holy matrimony and to that union four daughters were born: Shirley (Ervin) March, Carolyn (Wendell) Robinson, Bobbie McDaniel-Bynum, all of Darlington, SC and Chinora Angela (Toney George) Jefferson of Timmonsville, SC. They have eight grandchildren: Cheryl (Anthone) Bond and Natalie Howard, both of Baltimore, MD, Antinika (fiancé Dontae) Blue of Darlington, SC, Samethea Blue and Destiny (Michael) Melvin, both of Charlotte, NC., Dr. Jordan Jefferson of Darlington, SC, Amber (Warrick) Bowman of Columbia, SC, and Joshua Jefferson of Timmonsville, SC.; seven great grandchildren, bonus grandchildren, and one god granddaughter.
In addition, two brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law: Wesley Jacobs of Darlington, Melvin Jacobs of Baltimore, MD, Evangelist Alice Abson of Salisbury, NC, Evangelist Nora Ann Brown of High Point, NC, and Dorothy Jacobs of Darlington, SC; one special cousin, Mary Ham Robinson of Darlington, SC whom he was raised with; an aunt, Goldie Davis of Darlington, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who mourn his transition.
He is preceded by his parents, Otto and Martha McDaniel; wife, Lois J. McDaniel; siblings: Lucille Pride, Otto McDaniel, Edward McDaniel, Viola Sanders, Gertie McDaniel, Mary Allen, J.P. Jackson, Leonna Williams, Julia Jackson, and Frank Ham Jr., and one great granddaughter, NyAsia Blue.
Woodrow was devoted to his family. One of his last prayer request while hospitalized was for the “Lord to take care of his family." He loved sitting on his front porch and talking to family and friends as they came by. We have truly been blessed to have a father who has taken care of us and loved us so dearly. Our prayer is that he felt the love that we shared with him. He will be greatly missed!
