It is with profound sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the transition of Mr. Willie Lee "Wiggie" Samuel of the Syracuse Community in Darlington County.  Mr. Samuel transitioned peacefully Tuesday afternoon, November 10, 2020 in the comfort of home surrounded by his family following an illness. 

Celebration of Life will be 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 15, 2020 in Hart No. 2 Cemetery. Interment will follow.

     Mr. Willie Lee Samuel was born on August 17, 1953 in Darlington County, SC a son of the late MC Samuel and Ada Fields Samuel.  On Tuesday, November 10, 2020 God called Willie home to rest after a hard-fought battle.

     He attended the Darlington County Public Schools graduating from Spaulding High School Class of 1971.

     Willie was employed in earlier years by Milliken in Hartsville.  He later gained employment with Liberty National Life Insurance Company where he retired in 2000.  Willie was inspired by his late father-in-law, Joseph Keith, Sr, to pursue his own Tax Service.  He became owner and operator of Lynchburg Tax Service and later Joy Tax Service as a Tax Preparer.  Willie enjoyed fishing, traveling, and sports.

  He was a member of the Meadow Prong Masonic Lodge #346.  He was the president of the Coastal Athletic League for many years.

    “Wiggy”, as he was affectionately called, would give you the shirt off his back.  He was a devoted son, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, brother-in-law, son-in-law, uncle and friend.  “To know, Willie, was to love him" and we all did.  Willie never met a stranger.

     On September 28, 1974, he married the love of his life, the late Janie Ester Keith Samuel and as a result they were blessed with three daughters.

     Those left to cherish his memory are:  his four children, Ester (Ronald) Thomas, Alicia Samuel (Kenneth Travis), Joy Samuel and Franklin Coward (Felicia Myers), a brother, Edward (Ramona) Samuel; five grandchildren: Kenshawn Travis, Mariah Thomas, Bryson Thomas, A’miyna Coward and Franklin Hodge; a special cousin like a brother, Otis “O.T.” Samuel; his mother-in-law, Jannie Mae Rush Keith; his sisters-in-law, Jo Ann (Louis) Pugh and Doretha (Charles) Keith Gandy Brooks; his two brothers-in-law, Joseph “Bubba Joe” Keith, Jr. and Joe Sanders; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and an abundant amount of friends; Special friends: Frank Hicks, Thelma Brewer, Reverend Leon McDaniel and Ella Benjamin.

     He was preceded in death in addition to his parents: wife, Janie Ester Keith Samuel, a sister, Bobbie Sanders; a brother, Leroy Samuel; his father-in-law, Joseph Keith, Sr. and a sister-in-law, Patricia Ann Gainey Johnson.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence, 3237 Lamar Highway (Syracuse Community), Darlington.
