It is with heartfelt sorrow that the Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home Staff and members of the Goodson and Lunn families share the passing of our family member and colleague, Mr. Tywan “Meechie” Goodson. Mr. Goodson exchanged time for eternity on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at his residence following a brief illness. Our hearts are sadden and heavy but we rejoice that our son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and family member has gone from labor to reward.
Funeral is 2:00pm on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Cherry Grove Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Tywan Demetrius “Meechie” Goodson was born October 12, 1970 in Darlington, South Carolina to Betty Jean “Bet” Goodson and the late Richard “Buddy” Goodson. He transitioned into his eternal rest on Saturday morning, June 10th, 2023 at his residence.
Meechie received his early education in Darlington Co. Public Schools, graduating in 1989 from St. John High School. He later received his certification in phlebotomy from Sumter Tech.
He accepted Christ and was a lifetime member of Cherry Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he served as Co-Chair of the Trustee Board and member of the Pastor’s Aide Ministry.
He lived all of his life in Darlington County and was gainfully employed for several years as a Phlebotomist at Carolina Pines Hospital in Hartsville, SC as well as serving diligently for over 34 in several capacities with the SC Department of Special Needs at Pee Dee Center, Saleeby Center and Scott Center. He also served as a dynamic Care-giver for elderly patients both in their individual residences as well as Residential facilities. Tywan had many friends and co-workers that he loved dearly.
Tywan was a beloved and dedicated funeral associate with the Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. He loved his funeral home family and often called the firm, the M and the J.
Tywan was very passionate about how he dressed, particularly about his grooming, his appearance was always on point and was especially fond of keeping up with the latest fashion trends.
Tywan never met a stranger and was greatly loved by family, friends and co-workers. He was a caregiver by nature and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who was in need. During the final stage of his illness, his mother and several special individuals came to assist him, his cousins, Sharon and Jaime Brown, his sister and brother, Kadibra Maske and Richard Goodson, his paternal aunt, Betty Pat Goodson and her daughter, Latasha, his maternal aunt, Roeethyll Lunn and Mr. David Toney who has helped raise him since childhood.
Meechie leaves to cherish his precious memory: the queen of his life, his mother, Betty Goodson and her special friend, David Toney; his siblings: Kadibra (Bobby) Maske, Richard (Justine) Goodson and Barbara Robinson; nieces and nephews: Bobby, Brandon, Shadarius, Amond, Ny’Kia, Malcolm, Malik, Juna’ and Dewayne; a special daughter, Madison Mack; five extended family siblings: Edith, Wendy, Angie, Jeffery and Loretta; his paternal aunts: Mae Alice (Marcus) Hudson, Betty “Pat” Goodson, and Rev. Barbara Pickard; paternal uncles: Charles (Georgia) Goodson, Robert (Marlene) Goodson; maternal family members cherishing his memory are: his aunts: Eva Mae O'neal, Mildred Meadows, Margaret (Hezekiah) Sawyer, Vera Richardson, Roeethyll Lunn; an uncle, Pastor Sylvester (Saundra) Lunn.
Meechie was preceded in death by paternal grandparents: James Goodson, Alice Goodson and Emma Goodson; uncles: James Goodson, Johnny Goodson, and Freddie Goodson; maternal grandparents, Idella and Robert Lunn; aunts: Magdalene Brown and Lela Robinson; an uncle, Willie” Man” Lunn.
Visitation for relatives and friends will from 2:00pm until 8:00pm daily at the residence, 713 Wheatfield Drive, Darlington.
