Obituary
On the 19th of July 1945 Oliver McRavin, Sr. and BerneathaRobinson McRavin welcomed their youngest son, Thomas James McRavin, into the world. They were a large farming family residing in Darlington County who loved the Lord and each other. Thomas was a fun-loving child who enjoyed playing with his siblings as much as he did dodging his farming chores. Thomas committed his heart and life to Christ at a young age and joined New Providence Missionary Baptist Church where he faithfully served on the Usher Board and Male Choir. Later in life, after his health began to decline he attended Salem Baptist Church.
Thomas joined the U.S. Army after graduating from Mayo High School in 1963. He continued serving his country in the Army National Guard. Thomas was dedicated and loyal employee of Georgia Pacific/Dixie for over 42 years. Ironically, as an adult, he developed a passion for that which tried to avoid as a child - farming. He worked with great enthusiasm in his fields yielding bountiful crops which he shared with family and friends. He raised animals which were also shared in a satisfying BBQ.
Thomas, known to some as "Tommy", was a man who seemed to live with a light and merry heart; smiling and chuckling, joking and enjoying simple pleasures like a good plate of food, his dogs, Nascar racing, and football. He was an overall sports enthusiast. Thomas loved his family and they loved him. He particularly adored his three sons: Fredrick, Shawn and Brent. He was a man deeply loved and one who will be sorely missed by his family and friends alike.
Surviving to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy are his three sons: Fredrick (Eunice) Charles of Darlington, SC, Shawn (Tina) McRavin of Darlington, SC and Brent (Tarra) McRavin of Columbia.
He is also survived by one brother, Oliver (Ruby) McRavin, Jr. of Darlington, SC; four sisters: Mattie Bacote of Darlington, SC; Bernice Alford of Brooklyn, New York, Blanche Bacote of Darlington, SC and Ethel Reaves of Darlington, SC; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren, a multitude of nieces, nephews and friends as well as his special companion, Clara Goodson.
With the releasing of his spirit on Monday, March 22, 2021, he was reunited in paradise with his parents (Oliver Sr. and Berneatha) and siblings: Arthur McRavin, Mary Elizabeth Jackson, Annie Mae Exum, and Dora C. Wade.
Please keep the McRavin Family in your thoughts and prayers.
