Mr. Terrance Humes

It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and members of the Humes family shared the passing of our beloved, Mr. Terrance Humes.  He was the husband of the late Mrs. Bertia Hendrix Humes and father of Ms. Ciara Humes. Mr. Humes passed on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 in McLeod Hospice Facility following an illness. 

Funeral service is 1:00PM on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at the Pee Dee Elks, Timmonsville Highway, Darlington.  Interment will follow. 

     Mr. Terrance Leon Humes was born on June 4th,, 1959 in Georgetown County, South Carolina, a son of the late Rosa L. Smith and the late Thomas “Earl” Drayton. Mr. Humes was cared for and nurtured by his grandparents, the late Richard Humes and late Albertha Humes, who he affectionally view as Mom and Dad. Mr. Humes pass on January 31st, 2023 at McLeod Hospice House of Florence, SC.

     Mr. Humes received his education from Georgetown County Public School System. On October 22, 1988, he married the late Bertia Mae Hendrix and to that union a daughter, Ciara Chanel Humes was born in 1995.

     Mr. Humes held many jobs over his years, from working at Coastal Carolina Hospital System, to working with behavioral health children at a special need center, and working in the food industry. He ended his career due to illness working as a Food Supervisor for SC Department of Corrections.

     Mr. Humes had love for his family. He had a special love for cooking, and helping people when he could, he loved to be in the mix of things.

     Terrance will be missed by those who loved and knew him. He was preceded in death by: his wife of 32 years Bertia M. Humes; mother, Rosa L. Smith; father, Thomas E. Drayton; “Mom”, Albertha Humes, and “Dad”, Richard Humes.

     Those left to cherish his memories are: his daughter of the home, Ciara C. Humes; a bonus mother, Emma Drayton of Georgetown, SC; nine brothers: Clifton Humes, Elijah Humes Jr., Eugene (Theresa) Humes, Jamal Smith all of Georgetown, SC, Glenny (Regina) Humes of Simpsonville, SC, Isaac (Loretta) Humes, Lamont  (Deborah) Smith both of Spartanburg, SC, Chanton (Sylvia) Smith of Lyman, SC and Kerry (Marilyn) Drayton of St. John, FL; ten sisters: Martha Gaither, Irma Bellamy both of Simpsonville, SC, Ruth (Tyrone) Jackson of Greer, SC, Mary (Sebastian) Shaw of Spartanburg, SC,  Karen Montgomery of Providence, RI, Alicia (Michael) Ruffin of Duncan, SC, Layla (Kareem) Harris of Irmo, SC, Keesha Drayton of Hartford, CT, Geni Greene and Kia Drayton both of Georgetown, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

     The Humes/Smith/Drayton family would like to give a Special thanks to Medford Nursing home and Mcleod Hospice House for their service.
