Mr. Samuel “Sammy” James McPhail

With heartfelt sympathy, the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the McPhail and Goodson families announce the passing of Mr. Samuel James McPhail of Darlington, SC. Mr. McPhail transitioned Monday, August 25, 2025, at Carolina Pines Medical Center, Hartsville, SC, surrounded by love. 

The family will be receiving friends at the residence, 952 Harmony Hall Dr, Darlington, SC.

Public viewing will be 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM, Friday, August 29, 2025, at Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., 612 S Main St, Darlington, SC.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 30, 2025, at St Paul Holiness Church, 249 Dovesville Hwy, Darlington, SC. Pastor Annie Lou Williamson will provide Words of Comfort. Interment will follow at Gandy Family Cemetery, Society Hill Rd, Society Hill, SC.

Obituary

     Mr. Samuel James McPhail was born in Darlington, SC on January 18, 1989 a son of Cabanough McPhail and Sammara Bailey.  He entered into his final rest on Monday, August 25, 2025 at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, Hartsville, SC.

     He received his formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools graduating from Darlington High School Class of 2006.

     “Sammy”, as he was affectionately called by family and friends, lived all his life between Darlington and Hartsville.  He was a very loving, kind person who would always greet you with a smile. Sammy’s favorite NFL Football Team is the Dallas Cowboys.

     He was a member of St. Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church under the leadership of Pastor Annie Lou Williamson.

     Those left to cherish his memories are:  his mother, Sammara Goodson; his father, Cabanough McPhail; his step-father, Michael Anthony Goodson; his four brothers: Justin McPhail, Marcus McPhail, Devin (Danah) McPhail and Andrew (LaQuaisha) McPhail; two half-sisters; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

     He was preceded in death by:  his maternal grandparents:  Vermel Bailey and Samuel Harrison; his paternal grandparents:  Hester Freeman and Clinton McPhail; two uncle, Christopher Bailey, Garrett Freeman; two aunts:  Leeann Bailey and Jacqueline Rhodes.
