Mr. Roland Marcell Bruce

It is with heartfelt sympathy that Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the Bruce and Berry families announce the passing of Mr. Roland Marcell Bruce. Mr. Bruce transitioned Thursday, October 17, 2024.

The family is receiving condolences and friends daily from 1:00-7:00 PM at the home of his mother, Ms. Latarsha Berry, at 239 Ridge Rd, Darlington, SC. 

Public viewing will be 12-4 pm, Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc.

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Sunday, October 27, 2024, at Lawson Grove Baptist Church, 3585 Lawson Grove Rd, Hartsville, SC. Interment will follow the service at Faith Memorial Gardens, Rogers Rd, Darlington, SC.

Obituary

Mr. Roland “Bolo” Marcell Bruce was born March 10, 1994, in Florence, South Carolina, the son of Latarsha Berry and Roland Larvell Bruce. He suddenly departed this life on Thursday, October 17, 2024, in a fatal car accident.

Roland received his formal education in the Darlington County Public School System. Roland received his high school diploma from Darlington High School, Class of 2013. Roland worked various jobs, but his heart was at Honda as a welder until his assignment ended.

Roland “Bolo” Marcell Bruce was a loving son, brother, godfather, uncle, cousin, nephew and friend. He will be greatly missed by his family, neighbors, and friends who loved him dearly.

Survivors left to cherish his loving memory are: his parents: Latarsha Berry of the home; Roland (Erica) Bruce, Sr. of Darlington, SC; maternal grandparents: Mae (Donald) Terry and James L. Berry both of Darlington, SC; six sisters: Nicole, Asia, Keema & Kayla Wingate all of Darlington; paternal grandparents: Honesty Bruce and Michelle Bruce; three brothers: Quantavious McFarland, Romaine Bruce, Josiah Bruce, and Roland Larvell Bruce, Jr.; one other brother, Brandon Hudson; four aunts: Sharon (Earl) McCollough, Adrian (Ralfanel) Scott, Wanda Dargan, and Quintina Moses; one uncle Joseph (Margie) Muldrow; god-brother, Keyshawn Hunter; god-sister: Iyawni James; god-parents: Tobye Bristow, Pamela Isaac, and Timothy Isaac; special sisters: Eunique, Morquasia, Imani, Andrea, Abreanna and Shay; Special Aunt “Von”; special cousins/friends: Quentin, Swipe, Quitty, Tae, OC, Jr., Mal, Dre, Trey, Zay, Tavise, Que, Bugga, Fonta, Red, Doggie, Bart, Snake, PT, Dap, Al, Eric, Fred, Neal, D-Ray, Poobie, Lil Mark, Chicken, Richard, Tre, Meechie, Chain, Quavion, Booman, Dominque, Brittany, Brianna, Brazlyn, Dashia, Tori, Niya, Doodle, Lara & Baby Cam, Aubrey, Gerrod, Timothy, Calvin, and Head.

He was preceded in death by his uncles: Andra “JuJu” Berry, Jermain “Mar Luv” Berry, and Roman Marcell Bruce; his paternal grandparents: Doris Bruce and Roland Bruce, Sr.; one aunt, Karen Muldrow; one brother, Roman Marcell Bruce, Jr; five special friends who he loved like brothers: Markese ”Kese” Robinson, Deshawn “Nephew” Johnson, Shaheem “Baby Joe” Joe, Dominque “Domo” Robinson, and Keshawn “Dooshie” DuBose.
