It is with sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mr. Rodney Peterson of Hartville, SC. Mr. Peterson passed on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 in a Hartsville medical center.
The family of Mr. Rodney Peterson in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state and local community, would love to be surrounded by your presence. They acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly and those with chronic health conditions and ask that those who attend the service ensure you are wearing MASKS AND GLOVES and practice social distancing. Funeral service will be 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at the Church Yard of True Saints Church of God in Christ, Poole St., Hartsville.

Mr. Rodney Peterson, also known as “Roc”, was blessed on this earth November 22, 1973 a son of the late Jerial Edward Peterson and Kay Francis Simon Peterson. He blessed Heavens gates on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 in Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, Hartsville, SC.
He received his formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools graduating from Hartsville High School Class of 1992.
At an early age, he worked for Jim Cox as a Painter. A trade he taught his wife and children. He was later employed with Winn-Dixie where he worked his way up the ladder to Receiving Manager and remained there until Winn-Dixie closed down.
Yet while working at Winn-Dixie , he also worked at Frito-Lay, Little Caesar, and Lays part-time. Rodney was also employed with Wal-Mart Distribution Center, Mar Mac, Roller Bearing Company- EDC Department. Before his transition to eternal rest, he was self employed at Florence Morning News as a newspaper carrier while waiting to return to RBC.
On October 23, 2006, He was united in marriage to Mildred Earshalia Gibson. Rodney was a member of True Saints Church of God in Christ. During his time he was also a member of the financial committee, a Deacon, a member of the Brotherhood Board and a Sunday School teacher to preschoolers. Rodney was a loving husband and became the fulltime caretaker to his wife, Earshalia.
Rodney was a hardworking, humble, quiet, no drama, real talking man. He was the quietest one in the room, but the life of the party at the same time. You just had to get him out of his quiet zone. He loved fishing, good eating, shooting pool, and sports mainly football. He was a Clemson Tiger fan at heart.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory are: his wife, Earshalia Peterson; seven children: Ky’Ron Earl Jamal, Darius Cedric, Baby Girl Sydney Sanaa of their union, Roderick, Yasmin Iasha Rodniqua, Rodriqus Devon, Dejuah Lashea; granddaughter: Zoey Cooley; his siblings: Dorothy Jackson-Knox, Annette Bright, Patricia Rhue, Barbara (Glenn) Gregg, Linda Peterson, Francina Peterson, Edward (Larenda) Peterson, Jr., Richard (Larice) Peterson, David (Sandra) Peterson, Frank Peterson, Terris Peterson, Fitzgerald Peterson, Jeremiah Moses; special nephews: Justin Peterson, Christopher Peterson; special cousins: Carl Mitchell, Charles Mitchell, Alphonzo Myers; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Jerial Edward and Kay Francis Simon Peterson, a son, and four siblings.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at 3520 Cross Swamp Road, Lamar, SC.
