With heartfelt sympathy, Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the Washington family announce the passing of Mr. Robert "Moochie" Washington of Darlington, SC. Mr. Washington transitioned Sunday, April 12, 2026, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC.

Public viewing will be held 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm, Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., 612 S Main St, Darlington, SC.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Friday, April 17, 2026, at Cherry Grove Baptist Church, 552 E. Billy Farrow Hwy, Darlington, SC. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, off Auburn School Rd, Darlington, SC.

Obituary

   “Sometimes it’s hard to understand why some things have to be, but in His wisdom, God has planned beyond our power to see.  So looking back in tenderness along the road we trod.  We cherish the years we had with you and leave the rest to God.”

    Mr. Robert Washington, better known as “Moochie”,  was born in Pinewood, SC Sumter County on October 15, 1934 a son of the late Ashbye and Liza Nelson Washington.  He entered into his final resting place on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC

    He received his formal education in Pinewood, SC.   After making his home in Darlington, SC, Robert became a member of Cherry Grove Baptist Church.

     He was united in marriage to the late Virginia Bruce Washington.

    Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather and family member. He will be dearly missed by his family, neighbors and friends.

     He was preceded in death by: his children: Roslyn Bruce, Robert Washington, Jr., Charlie Pete Isaac, and Robert Washington, II, and his mother-in-law, Bernetha Bruce Copeland.

    Those who shared the joys and sorrows of life with him and survive to cherish his memory are: five children: Robert Lee (Bernice Brown) McFarland, Roger McFarland, Robert Michael Washington, Robert Washington, and Edith Brown Frazier; his step-father-in-law, Gene Paul Copeland; his in- laws: Sarah Witherspoon, Barbara J. Bruce, Kathy (James) Muldrow, Carrie Hall, Pastor Jimmy (Ann) Sweet, Rex (Patricia) Bruce and Viola Bruce; 10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
