Mr. Robert Lee Fortune

It is with profound sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home and members of the Fortune Family announces the passing of Mr. Robert Lee Fortune of Lamar, South Carolina. Mr. Fortune expired on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at a Florence facility following an illness.

Funeral service is 1:00PM on Thursday, February 02, 2023 at United States National Cemetery, Florence.  Interment will follow. 

     Mr. Robert Lee Fortune was born on October  10, 1961 in Bishopville, SC a son of Eliza Jane Toney Fortune and the late James “Buck” Fortune.  Robert peacefully entered his eternal rest on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at McLeod Hospice House, Florence, SC.

     Robert, affectionately known as “Spike”, received his formal education in the Lee County Public Schools System graduating from Bishopville High School Class of 1979.

     Robert was employed at both National Dye Works, Lynchburg, SC and JBE, Inc. in Hartsville, SC for several years after retiring from the National Guard with 21 years of service. He was employed with Southeastern Express in Timmonsville, SC until his health declined.

     “Spike”, was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, family member and friend.  He loved grilling, yard work and spending time with his family.  To know him was to love his humorous personality, infectious smile and martial arts skills.  Though he is no longer with us, his “Ric Flair” spirit will forever live in our hearts.

     Those who shared the joys of life with him and survive to cherish his memories are:  his loving wife, Connie Alford Fortune; his daughter, Robyn (Roriquz) Flynn; his son, Tavoris Turner; his step-son, Andre Baldwin; one grandson, Treyvoris Turner; his siblings: Bettye (Mario) Williams, Geraldine (Levern) Stuckey, Rosa (Bobby Joe) Kennedy, Patricia Fortune, James Edward (Christa) Fortune, Larry (Cynthia) Fortune and Leroy Fortune; his in-laws: Elizabeth (Howard) Patterson, Bettye (Wesley) Belin, Helen Alford, Joyce (Cal) Dolford, Jimmy Alford, John Alford and Terry Alford; a host of nieces, nephews, family; a life-long and devoted friend, James Wells; other friends and community.

    He was preceded in death by: his father, James Fortune; two brothers: Joseph Fortune and Bobby Fortune.
