"Life's Reflection"

“For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?” ~1 Corinthians 15:53-55

Robert L. Dargan was born on September 5, 1940, in Lamar, South Carolina to the late J.C. Dargan, Sr. and Ella Mae Cooper Dargan. He departed this life on Friday, February 3, 2023, Morrell Memorial Convalescent Center, Hartsville after an illness.

Robert graduated from Spaulding High School in Lamar, SC as a member of the Class of 1959. Robert was given the nicknamed “Rev” because he dressed neat like a preacher, and he never got in any trouble.

Robert found work as a laborer at the John Linden Textile Manufacturing Company in New York City, New York where he would continue to work for over forty years. His work ethic and dedication to his profession propelled him from laborer to Import/Export Manager during his career at the company. He spent the last of his employment years at the Newark, New Jersey FEDEX Air Terminal.

Robert moved back to Lamar in 2001 to assist in the care of his father whose health was failing. He became a member of Bethany Baptist Church in 2003 under the leadership of Pastor, Rev. Emanuel Simon

Robert had a green thumb, and he would always plant a garden. He was generous with the fruits of his labor and gave most of his provision to whoever asked.

Robert loved to watch Western and News. He would give his opinion to the news anchor whether they wanted to hear it or not! Robert was very active in the community and would often volunteer his service at the Egg Scramble Jamboree Golf Tournament, taking people to the polls to cast their votes, securing the grounds of the church, and participating in events held by the Spaulding High School Alumni Association.

As the years passed and Robert spent more time at home, his family would come, usually on Friday evenings to celebrate one another and talk about the Lamar Silver Foxes during football season. Everyone was always welcome, just as long as they “closed that front door” in a timely manner.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by son, Ronnie Bernard Dargan; four brothers: James L., Henry, Ernest, and J.C., Jr (Edward); two sisters: Fannie L. and Phyllis Huggins.

Those who shared the joys of life with him and survive to share his memory are: four sons: Reginald (Angela) Dargan, Terrance (Francine) Dargan, Gregory Dargan, and Tracy Mack; one daughter, Keesha Manley; Grandchildren: Terrance, A’Lyas, A’Breon, L’il Reggie, Terrance (TJ), Tabitha, Dominique, Tracy, Jr., and Jamar; seven Great-Grandchildren; two brothers: Daniel Dargan and David Dargan; two sisters: Mae Dargan-Willis and Rebecca (Garnell) Anderson; a special nephew, Timothy Dargan; a special friend, Joan Brown; a very close friend, Levern Woods; a host of nieces, nephews, close relatives, and dear friends.

Visitation for relatives and friends is held at 612 Bay Branch Road, Lamar.

Please keep the family and friends of Mr. Robert Lee Dargan in your thoughts and prayers.
