Mr. Richard Price Obituary

It is with sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home. Inc. announces the passing of Mr. Richard Price of Lamar, SC.  Mr. Price transitioned on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 in an Orangeburg, SC medical center. 

The family of Mr. Richard Price in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state and local community, would love to be surrounded by your presence. They acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly and those with chronic health conditions and ask that those who attend the service ensure you are wearing BOTH MASKS AND GLOVES and practice social distancing.  During this time, the family needs mostly your prayers and understanding. Thank you for your concern and cooperation.

Celebration of Life with graveside services will be 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at Plaza Memorial (Grooms Cemetery), Lamar, SC.  Interment will follow. 

~Obituary~

Richard Price Sr. was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. He loved his family with all of his heart. He made sure everyone kept in touch and if he knew his family had an event, he was always present at least an hour before it started. He was affectionately called “Big Daddy” and thought of as the Patriarch of the Price Family. Richard was the third child of eight siblings born to Edgar & Lidar Mack Price. He was born on September 10, 1941 and unexpectantly departed on May 19, 2020.

Richard was a lifetime member of Bethany Baptist Church in Lamar, SC, where he served as Trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, safety guard, usher, and a member of the choir.  He was educated in the public schools of Darlington County and graduated from Spaulding High School, Lamar, SC Class of 1961.

Richard served in the United States Army and with the Darlington County Police Department. He was also a dedicated employee of the Darlington County School District as a Bus Driver. He loved all sports and enjoyed volunteering for the recreational department as well as local leagues in the area.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, the late Edgar & Lidar Mack Price, two sisters, Marjorie Price Martin & Evelena Price Byrd, a brother, Harry Lee Price, a son, Bernard Price, a daughter, Georgetta Williams, and three grandsons, Demetrius Lucas, Christopher McCoy & Quanzavious Ceaser.

Richard leaves his legacy to continue with: seven sons, Richard (Debra) Price, Jr. of Greenville, SC; Darrell (Helga) Price of Broken Arrow, OK; Micheal (Melinda) Price of Columbia, SC; Kenneth (Emma) Price of Darlington, SC; Dwayne (Alexandria) Price of Kaufengen, Germany; Patrick (Melisa) Price of Stafford, VA & Terence (Chriszetta) Price of Columbia, SC; two daughters, Angela (Thomas) Raye of Pinehurst, North Carolina & Regina (Edward) Wilson, of Columbia, SC; three brothers, Bennie Price of Lamar, SC, Frankie Price of Quinby, SC & Gerald (Saundra) Price of Florence, SC; a sister, Edna Louise Pettigrew of Lamar, SC; one uncle, William “Bill” Mack of Brooklyn, NY; two aunts, Catherine Reid of Clio, SC & Sally (Aaron) Green of Brooklyn, NY; a special niece, Cynthia Lighty of Lamar, SC; 42 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren & a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. Richard will be greatly missed by his loved ones and those that knew him.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence, 1224 Cartersville Hwy, Lamar.
