Mr. Randy “Russell” Smith

It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and members of the Smith family announce the passing of Mr. Randy “Russell” Smith of Darlington.  Mr. Smith transitioned peacefully on Monday evening, December 12, 2022 with his family by his side at the residence of his sister.  

Funeral service is 12 Noon on Friday, December 16, 2022 in the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church Yard.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Life' Reflections

"The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters."     

     Mr. Randy “Russell” Rutledge Smith was born to the late Willie Smith and Lillie Mae Joint Smith on July 24, 1956 in Darlington, SC. He peacefully entered his eternal resting place on Monday evening, December 12, 2022 with his family by his side at the residence of his sister.

     He received his formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools.

     Randy joined and was baptized at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Darlington, SC at an early age. For over 30 years, he was gainfully employed by Oneal’s Auto Sales until his health began to fail.

     Randy enjoyed auto detailing, gardening, fishing, spending time with family and friends.

     Those left to cherish his precious memories are: his daughter, Terronica Graham of Dovesville, SC; son,  Randy Graham of Dovesville, SC; a son reared as his own: Michael (Mia) Graham of Dovesville, SC; seven grandchildren: Kaden Graham, Hayden Graham, Zaya Graham, TyQuel Graham, Mikayla Graham, McKenzie Graham, and Michael Graham; six sisters: Patricia S. Mills, Nancy (Willie) Tedder, Sadie (Michael) Kinley, Amelia (Jimmy) Smith, Carol Larts all of Darlington, SC and Geraldine Jones of Winston Salem, NC; three brothers: Melvin (Mittie Rea) Joint, Willie (Gloria) Smith, and Leroy (Evelyn) Samuel; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Jordan; a sister-in-law: Seresa Smith; two aunts: Betty Warren of Winston-Salem, NC and Virginia Joint of Philadelphia, PA; an uncle, Roosevelt (Dorothy) Joint of Philadelphia, PA; a companion: Marie Fletcher and a dear, devoted friend: James “Junior” Love; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends who regrets his passing.

     He was preceded in death by his father and mother: Willie and Lillie Mae Smith; a sister, Emma Smith Jordan; a brother, Charles Smith and a niece, ShaNiyah Roary.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence of his sister, Ms. Patricia Smith Mills, 138 Sallie Street, Darlington, daily from 4:00PM to 8:00PM.
