It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mr. Ralph W. Arthur of Darlington, SC. Mr. Arthur transitioned peacefully on Wednesday morning, January 19, 2022 at McLeod Hospice House after an illness. 

Funeral service is 12 Noon on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Lawson Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Interment will follow. Please adhere to mask wearing and social distancing for this service. 
 

Obituary

    Mr. Ralph Waldo Arthur was born on September 23, 1951 in Darlington, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Edward and Castina Wingate Arthur.  He entered into his place of rest in the Lord Christ Jesus on January 19, 2022 at McLeod Hospice House. 

    Ralph attended Mayo High School where he was a student bus driver from 1969 - 1970 and graduated with the class of 1970. In 1971, Ralph attended Denmark Technical Collegewhere he received his Air Condition and Refrigeration certification. In 1974, he received his certification in Electricity and Air Condition Fundamentals at Florence-Darlington Technical College, and he also achieved his Commercial Wiring Certification in 1976. He married Minister Christena “Pat” Arthur in 1973.

    Ralph worked at GE Healthcare Manufacturer in Florence, SC, where he had the fulfillment of a thirty year plus career as a lead manager in the maintenance department.  While he kept the lights and power on at GE; he also was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. During his wonderful life, he enjoyed vacationing with his children and grandchildren.  Mr. Arthur was a member of Lawson Grove Baptist Church, where he loved to sing on the men’s choir and worship Jesus Christ.   

    Those who shared the joys of life with him and left to cherish his memory are: his three wonderful children: Caleisha Arthur-McQueen of Paterson, NJ, Timothy Arthur of Summerville, SC and Tineal Gibson of Huntersville, NC; six siblings: Minister Etta (Minister Carnell) Collins of Spartanburg, SC, Dr. Edward “June” ( Pastor Dr. Elizabeth “Ann”) Arthur, Henry Arthur, Alphonso (Dora) Arthur, Julia (Minister James “Pete”) Peterson, all of Darlington, SC and Philisia (Christian) Okeke of Rock Hill, SC; he was a proud Grand-Pa of eight grandchildren: Jabril and Kyrie Williams, Davoux, Anaya, Ahmad, and Destiny “DD” Arthur and Ariana and Kayden Gibson; several aunts and uncles; a host of sisters and brothers in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was loved by family, friends and will be greatly missed.

    Ralph was preceded in death by: his parents: Edward and Castina Arthur; his wife, Minister Christena “Pat” Arthur and his sibling, Charles Arthur.
