It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mr. Ralph Alston, aka Scat Back, of Darlington. "Scat Back" transitioned on Tuesday evening, September 21, 2021 in McLeod Hospice House.
Funeral service is 4:00pm on Saturday, September 25, 2021 in Faith Memorial Gardens. Interment will follow. Please adhere to mask wearing and social distancing.

Mr. Ralph Levern Alston was born April 20, 1957 in Florence, South Carolina a son of the late Julius N. Alston, Sr. and Elizabeth Hanna Alston. He entered into his final resting place on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at McLeod Hospice House, Florence, SC.
He received his formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools graduating from Mayo High School Class of 1975.
At an early age, he attended Bethel A.M.E. Church in Darlington, SC.
He was employed at Chesterfield Lumber Company as Machine Operator until his health declined.
“Scat Back”, as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was loved by many. When you saw “Scat Back”, he was always dressed to the “T”, in which, he inherited this from his father who too loved to dress. “Scat Back” was a very gifted and talented rapper who would rap to anyone that had an ear. His rhymes were on point.
Those left to cherish his memory are: his brother, Julius (Yvonne) Alston, Jr. of Darlington, SC; two sisters: Faye Fulcher of Ithaca, New York and Naomi (Vincent) Willoughby of Darlington, SC; a special friend, Jacqueline Jeffery of Darlington, SC; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins;
He was preceded in death in addition to his parents; his siblings: David Alston, Sr., Joan Alston and Earl Brockington.
Visitation is held at the residence of a brother and sister-in-law, Julius and Yvonne Alston, 725 Willowtree Drive, Darlington.
