Mr. Oreon Tyleek Byrd Obituary

With heartfelt sympathy, the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the Byrd family announce the passing of Mr. Oreon T. Byrd of Lamar, SC. Mr. Byrd transitioned Friday, May 9, 2025.

Visitation with family and friends will be held daily from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the home, 551 Hanging Tree Rd, Lamar, SC.

At the request of the family, there will be no public viewing at the funeral home. 

Funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Outreach Community Church, 134 McClain St., Lamar, SC. Interment will follow at Plaza Memorial Cemetery, Lamar, SC.

Obituary

    Oreon Tyleek Byrd was born in Florence, South Carolina on June 17, 2004, a son of Tyrone Byrd and the late Kalihial McCurry Graham.  He departed his earthly vessel on Friday, May 9, 2025 at his residence.

     Oreon received his formal education in the Darlington County Public School District graduating from Lamar High School Class of 2023 where he was the class clown and enjoyed playing Basketball/Football for the Silver Foxes.

    “Oreo”, as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was a very respectable young man. He loved playing video games. Whenever you saw Oreon, he always greeted you with that big beautiful smile.  To Know him was to Love him. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

    Oreon was a member of Fellowship Church of Christ, Darlington, SC.  For many years, he was employed by McDonald’s in Florence, SC.

    He was preceded in death by: his mother, Kalihia Graham; his grandmother, Magnolia McCurry Johnson and his grandfather, Curtis Lee McCurry.

    His loving memories will be cherished by:  the woman he grew to love and started calling “Ma”, Keri Hicks of the home; his father, Tyrone (Lettice) Byrd of Baltimore, MD; his siblings:  Kasha McCurry, Shamar Byrd, Razell Byrd and Tyreik Byrd; a special friend, Tynasia Douglas; special sisters: Deasia Douglas, Zyasia Doughlas; special grandmother, Jacqueline Mack; special aunts: Veronica (Donald) Smith, Tonya (Eric) Damon, JaQuetta (Cecil) Gilbert, Angie (Levern) Woods and Latasha McCurry (Edward Samuel); special uncles, Rooster Jeffery, Randy (Whitney) Jeffery; special cousins: Travion McPhail, TrevionaMcPhail, Traviona McPhail and Jayceon Epps; best friend, Myasia Stephens; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other close relatives and friends.
