With heartfelt sympathy, the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the Perkins family announce the passing of Mr. Moses “Donnie” Perkins, Sr., of Darlington, SC. Mr. Perkins transitioned Thursday, August 28 2025, at McLeod Health Cheraw, Cheraw, SC, after an illness.

The family will be receiving friends at the residence daily from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, 816 Royce Rd (Off Mineral Springs Road), Darlington, SC.

Public viewing will be 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., 612 S Main St, Darlington, SC.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, September 5, 2025, at New Hopewell Baptist Church, 3500 New Hopewell Rd, Darlington, SC. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Obituary

     Mr. Moses Perkins, Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. He peacefully departed this life on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at McLeod Health Cheraw in Cheraw, SC. He was born and raised in Darlington, South Carolina on December 20,1948 the son of the late Robert and Ruth Bostic Perkins.

    “Donnie”, as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was a graduate of Rosenwald High School Class of 1968. 

     On September 2, 1995, he married the former Miss Virgina Williamson. This year would have been their 30th wedding anniversary. 

    “Donnie” had many jobs but settled at Galey & Lord where he retired. He always liked working with people, cutting grass for them and hanging with his friends. His favorite NFL team was the San Francisco 49ers. 

     He was preceded in death by: his mother and father, Robert and Ruth Perkins; sisters: Rosena McClain, Dorothy Bishop, Edith Thomas, Mable Perkins and Rose P. Brown; brothers: James Perkins, Robert Perkins, Jr., Henry Perkins, Wille Perkins and Roosevelt, Sr.; a great grandchild, Baby Girl Ahjari Elise Dolford. 

     “Donnie” leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Virginia Perkins of the home; his children: Timothy (Stacey) James of Atlanta, GA, Terry Brown, Moses (Tammy) Perkins both of Society Hill, SC, Barry (Mekel) Thompson of Hartsville, SC, Patti (Jamel) Fleming of Darlington, SC and Torez Kelly of Rock Hill, SC; a stepdaughter Vanita (Tina) Hilliard of Columbia, SC; his sisters: Sarah Perkins of Washington, Laura Razado of Texas and Helen Adams of Connecticut; his brother, Bobbie Boston; he was the grandfather of eleven as well as two great-grandchildren; a very devoted nephew, Roosevelt Perkins, Jr.; a host of nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law; his best friends: Tommy Smith, Jr. and Willie Bennett.
