It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and members of the Martin family announce the passing of Mr. Michael “Mike” Martin of Darlington. Mr. Martin exchanged time for eternal rest on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at McLeod Regional Medical Center following an illness.
Funeral service will be held 1:00 PM, Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Cherry Grove Baptist Church, 552 E Billy Farrow Hwy, Darlington, SC.
~OBITUARY~
Michael Antonio ‘Nitro’ Martin was born on January 28, 1970, a son of Ms. Helen Martin and the late Mr. Russell Randolph in Richmond, Virginia. He departed this life on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC.
Michael was educated in the public school system of Darlington County and graduated from St John High School in 1988. He furthered his education and graduated with a degree in business administration soon after.
Michael enjoyed music, fishing, church, and loved spending time with his family. Those who knew Michael well knew that his mother Helen, whom he affectionately called “Shorty,” was his heart; ‘Uncle Mike Mike’ was the life of the party!
As an avid sports lover, Michael played football during his high school years. He Loved Football!!! His favorite team was the St. Louis Rams.
He became a member of the Door of Hope Christian Church under the leadership of Bishop Michael Blue in Marion, SC. His faith was such an important part of his life, and he shared it with as many people who would listen.
He worked for Jiffy Cab until his untimely departure and was well known by everyone in town.
Michael was united in marriage to Gladys Dewitt Martin on August 25, 2007.
Those left to cherish memories of Michael are: his wife, Gladys; his mother, Helen; his children: Shanequa Goldsmith, Robert Bacote Jr., and Kanari Bacote; sisters, Margaret Lee (Aaron) and April Randolph; two brothers: Tommy Randolph and Timothy Randolph; Grandchildren: Sainiya Randall, Khloe Goldsmith, Ky’Aiire Goldsmith, Reilyn Bacote and Reina Bacote; mother-in-law, Ann (James) McFadden; brother-in-law, James McFadden; his dogs Lil’ Man and Bailey Martin; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will all miss him dearly.
