Life’s Reflections

“Although our hearts are heavy with grief that you are gone, Michael, our spirits are at peace, for you are now safe in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.”

Michael J. Scott was born on November 18, 1988, to Benzina Pratt Scott and the late Deacon Joseph Scott.  Michael entered eternal rest on Monday, August 29, 2022, at McLeod Regional Medical Center.

Michael, affectionately known as “Big Mike”, was a 2008 graduate of Darlington High School where he was a member of Darlington High School Marching Band.  He attended Florence-Darlington Technical College and Virginia College, Florence, SC.  He worked several jobs while in high school and college.  Afterwards, he followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the Sonoco Products of Hartsville family.  One of Michael’s greatest thrills was coming home and sharing “Sonoco Stories” with his father. He worked for several years at Sonoco, until his health declined.

At an early age, Michael was converted, baptized in Jesus’ name and became a member of Christ Temple Holiness Church, Darlington, SC.  At Christ Temple, he sang with the Youth Choir and Brotherhood Choir.  He proudly served as the Christ Temple’s church drummer for many years.

Michael was gentle, kind, and faced every challenge in life with admirable strength and courage.  Michael will be forever remembered, always loved, and will eternally hold a special place in the heart of his family and friends.  To know Michael was to certainly love him.  Though he is no longer physically with us, his spirit will forever live in our hearts.  Michael was an avid Eagles’ Football Fan.

Michael was predeceased by his father, Deacon Joseph Scott; sisters and brother-in-law, Mrs. Leticia (Sylvester) Scott Baker, Ms. Devon Renee Scott; brother, Mr. Trevis Montell Scott; paternal grandparents, Mr. Nathan Scott, Sr. and Mrs. Edith Virginia Arthur Scott; maternal grandparents: Mrs. Rosa Lee Pratt, and Mr. Ben Jackson; uncles, Mr. Pressley Pratt, Jr., Mr. Luther Mack, and Mr. Nathan Scott, Jr.; nephew and niece, Anton Scott and Makala Brown; god-parents, Bishop and Mrs. Wallace Johnson.

Michael J. Scott leaves to cherish his fond and precious memories: his mother, Benzina Scott of the home; his wife, Brittany Simmons Scott of  Florence, SC; brother, Deandre (Danelle) Scott of Smoaks, SC; his nieces and nephews, Aries Brown, Anthony Scott, Macahia Brown, Trequan Scott and TiKierra Jerry; god-sisters, Barbara (Elder Harvey) Franklin, Jo-Ann (Laverne) Knox and Nyeshea Davis Muldrow; special aunt, Jo-Ann (Levern Jr.) Edwards; uncles, David (Naomi) Pratt, Pastor Andrew (Linda) Scott, Clifton (Valerie) Scott and Bishop Julius (Sarah) Parrott; aunts, Mary Cooper, Vivian Mack, Herlene Scott, and Anzolia (Major) Stacil; great-aunt, Ruby L.
