With heartfelt sympathy, Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the Brown family announce the passing of Mr. Michael D. Brown of Darlington, SC. Mr. Brown transitioned Monday, March 16, 2026, at home after an illness.
The family will be receiving friends at the home of a daughter, Felicia Brown, 1539 Syracuse Community Rd, Darlington, SC.
A public viewing will be held from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Friday, March 20, 2026, at Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., 612 S Main St, Darlington, SC.
Funeral service will be held 12:00 PM noon, Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Faith Memorial Gardens, Rogers Rd, Darlington, SC. Interment will follow.
Obituary
Mr. Michael D. Brown, better known as “Crow” of Darlington, SC entered into his eternal resting place on Monday, March 16, 2026 at his residence.
Michael was born on May 13, 1956 in Brooklyn, New York to the late David Brown and Emmaline Reed. McKinley and Annie Mae Lighty Daniels raised him from the age of six months in Darlington, SC. Michael attended Darlington County schools. He was an employee of Lazy Boy Furniture Company for a few years. For almost forty years, Michael was a dedicated employee for Galloway Farms. This is where he picked up his love for tractors.
Michael was an avid softball player and coach. The Pioneer Hustlers and the Dream Team were his life. He started playing softball at the Pioneer Club at the age of 16. Every weekend was softball weekend for Michael. His children often told him, he loved the ballfield more than he loved them. He was passionate about softball to the point of when he could not play anymore,he coached for years too. He was an inspiration to a lot of young men and women on the softball field. Michael was well known around the Syracuse community because of his love for softball. If his health never failed him, he probably would still be out there on a field now.
Michael married Sallie Ratliff on July 15, 1975. He is survived by his children: Stacey (Stacy) Harris of Eastover, SC, Dewayne (Celestine) Brown of Florence SC and Felicia Brown of Darlington, SC; thirteen grandchildren: Malik, Deondrae, Daquan, Deontae, Shania, Jamela, Zion, Dylan, Zoe, Logan, Dakota, Chance and Cayleigh; one great granddaughter, Sanai; four sisters: Maxine Mack of Darlington, SC, Linda (Bernard) Cherry of Florence, SC, Daisy (Nelson) Lee and Shirley Nicolson of Brooklyn, NY; seven brothers: David (Michelle) Brown, Roland (Elaina) Brown of Schenectady, NY, Isaiah (Lillie) Hodges of Summerville, SC, Duncan Brown, Roger (Velma) Brown, Jonathan Brown of Brooklyn, NY and Isaiah Brown of Newark, New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Ny’quasia, sister Rochelle Brown and brothers, Sam and Terrance Brown. Michael also raised Della and Moretta Johnson and Anthony Scipio (Quanteisha, Addison, Azaria, Roderick, Patlaigah and Traveon). Michael also leaves behind a very special companion, Mamie Sparks and friendDavid “Joe” Wallace, several sister and brother in laws, nieces, nephews, a host of cousins, other relatives and friends who he loved dearly.
