It is with sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mr. Luther Sellers. Mr. Sellers passed on Monday, January 18, 2021 in McLeod Hospice House.
Funeral service is 12 noon Saturday, January 23, 2021 in New Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery. Interment will follow.
Obituary
Mr. Luther Sellers, affectionately known as “Major”, was born January 23, 1943 in Chesterfield County, South Carolinathe son of the late Dan and Lizzie Sellers. He was one of ninechildren. He entered into his final resting place on Monday, January 18, 2021 in McLeod Hospice House, Florence, South Carolina.
He received his formal education in the Chesterfield County School System.
“Major” enjoyed fishing with his nephew, Tom andgardening. He truly loved the country life and also enjoyedspending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left surviving to cherish his loss are: his wife, Hattie Sellers of Darlington, SC; two daughters: Loretta Martin of Darlington, SC and Angel Sellers of Columbia, SC; three sons:Alphonso (Deborah) Sellers, Troy (Mae) Sellers both of Hartsville, SC and Mark George of Darlington, SC; his brother,George Sellers of Cheraw, SC; three special grandchildren that he raised as his own: Daizhon Johnson, Laquisha Johnson and Michelle James; eighteen grandchildren total; twenty-four great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by: three brothers: Joe Lewis, Fred Sellers and Nate Sellers; four sisters: Sara Sellers Walls, Betsy Scott, Mary Sellers and Carrie Young; a grandchild, Rauchavious Sellers; a son-in-law, Walter Martin and special friend, Vermell McFarland.
