Mr. Louis Simon Obituary

With heartfelt sympathy, the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the McClain and Simon families announce the passing of Mr. Louis Simon of Lamar, SC. Mr. Simon transitioned on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital, Columbia, SC, following an illness.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the residences of his daughter, Latonya McClain at 217 W. Pearl St, Lamar, SC, and a sister, Deloris McCullough at 725 E. Lynches River Rd, Lamar, SC.

Public viewing will be held 12:00 - 4:00 PM, Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, 612 S Main St, Darlington, SC.

Funeral service will be 1:00PM on Friday, June 13, 2025 at New Zion African Methodist Episocal Church, Wisacky, Bishopville, SC. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

A Time to Be Born…

Mr. Louis Simon, affectionately known as “Cootie Boy,” was born on June 2, 1952, in Lamar, South Carolina. His unmistakable light was shared by his parents, the late Wesley Simon, Sr. and Lila Mae Lewis Simon.

A Time to Grow…

Louis grew up in Lamar, South Carolina and attended the public schools of Darlington County. He followed in his father’s footsteps and began farming in Lamar. He worked faithfully on the D. A. Carter farm until he reached retirement age. Even after retiring, he often returned to help out whenever he was needed.

A Time to Love…

Louis loved his family deeply.

A Time to Worship…

Louis joined New Zion A.M.E. Church at an early age. Though he later moved away, he would attend whenever he was in town. He attended the family gathering in August 2024 and worshipped at New Zion A.M.E. Church that Sunday.

A Time to Celebrate…

Louis leaves a village that will cherish his legacy: his only daughter; three grandchildren;   his siblings;  Marylee Simon (2 children), Margarit Simon (3 children), Sarah Simon (5 children), Deloris McCullough (4 children), Inez Simon (2 children), Nathaniel Simon (7 children);  his significant other, Janice Nichols and her son;  

He was preceded in death by: four siblings:  Annie Mae Jackson (2 children), Dorothy Mae Simon (3 children), Willie Simon (2 children) and Marie Jackson (6 children).
