With heartfelt sympathy, Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the McClain family announce the passing of Mr. Lorenzo Benjamin McClain, Jr., of Darlington, SC. Mr. McClain transitioned Monday, September 15, 2025.

The family will be receiving friends at the residence daily from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, 644 Society Hill Rd, Darlington, SC. 

Public viewing will be 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Friday, September 19, 2025, at Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., 612 S Main St, Darlington, SC.

Funeral service will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Flat Creek Baptist Church, 1369 Society Hill Rd, Darlington, SC. Interment will follow in Gandy Cemetery, Society Hill Rd, Society Hill, SC.

Obituary

     Mr. Lorenzo Benjamin McClain, Jr. was the son of Lorenzo Benjamin McClain, Sr. and the late Eliza Ann Pugh McClain. He was born July 12, 1973 in Darlington, South Carolina and entered into his eternal rest at his home on Monday, September 15, 2025.

     Affectionately known as “Poke” by his family and “Zo” by his friends, received his formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools graduating from St. John’s High School Class of 1991.

     At an early age, Lorenzo became a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church in Darlington, SC.

     Poke (Zo) was a Jack of all trades and skillfully employed with multiple companies. His most recent experience was with Citi Trends.

     As a young adult he enjoyed cars, particularly racing. Poke (Zo) was very athletic and spent most of his time playing baseball and football. He was well-known in his hometown.  In his free time, he loved hanging out with family and friends sitting outside enjoying the cool breeze, playing a game of Spades and was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan.  But most of all, he was a loving father and grandfather.

    Poke (Zo) leaves behind a legacy to cherish his memories: his oldest son, Ja’ki Jackson, a daughter, La’Shanti Gattison and his youngest son, Zaden McClain; two granddaughters: Ki’Layla Jackson and Adore Jackson; his father, Lorenzo B. McClain, Sr.; his sister, Angela McClain; a niece, Aziza McClain-Baxter; a nephew, Angelo McClain-Baxter; a great aunt, Pastor Annie Lou (Willie) Williamson; a special aunt, Patricia Edwards; and a host of family and friends.

     In addition to his mother, Eliza McClain, he was preceded in death by his grandparents.
