Mr. Lewis Roosevelt Damon Obituary

It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the Damon family announce the transition of Mr. Lewis R. Damon of Darlington, SC. Mr. Damon passed on Friday, May 31, 2024, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC, following an illness.

Funeral service will be 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Savannah Grove AME Church, 1401 Andrew Mills Road, Lamar, SC. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. 

Obituary

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”  II Timothy 4:7-8

Mr. Lewis Roosevelt Damon was born December 3rd, 1941 to the late Grover Damon and Pearlina Slater Damon. 

He received his formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools.  He continued his education in Florida where he received a certificate in Computer Programming.

Lewis moved to New York and lived there for over 30 years. He was employed with the New York Transit Systems and was promoted several times. His last position was Senior Deputy Inspector. 

He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and lived a committed life unto God ever since. Lewis was a devoted member of Savannah Grove AME Church.

He was united in marriage to Charlotte “Betty” Williams Damon in 1962. 

Lewis leaves to cherish many fond memories:  his loving and devoted wife, Charlotte “Betty” Damon; two daughters and two sons: Joylyn C. Damon-Daniels (Drum), Lewis Damon Jr. (Sharon), Glenda M. Carrington (Wayne) and Linden Houston Damon (Tiffany); his siblings: Late Grover Damon Jr. (late Clarisse), Barron Damon (late Georgia), Pearlie Hammonds (late Dewey Hammonds), Reverend Bobby Damon (late Ethel Mae), Carolyn Munnerlyn (Allen), Billy Damon (Beverly), Reverend D. Pennie Damon, sister/niece, Debra Damon McKenzie; brother/nephew, Grover F. Damon III. (Toni); god-daughter, Cathy A. Sansbury; god-son, Paris A. Miller; aunt, Louise Coker (late Robert); six grandchildren: Candice J. Carrington, Nia Reaves (Markese), Deon L. Damon, Vivica T. Damon, Kayla D. Daniels and DaRel Daniels; four great grandchildren: London A. Reaves, Nova S. Reaves, Melanie M. Reaves and Kia E. Daniels; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, aunt, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and church family.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence, 1432 Timmonsville Hwy, Darlington, SC.
