With heartfelt sympathy, Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the Sansbury family announce the passing of Mr. Leverne Sansbury of Darlington, SC. Mr. Sansbury transitioned Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC, after an illness.
The family will be receiving friends starting Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, at the residence, 513 Syracuse St, Darlington, SC.
Public viewing will be 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Monday, November 3, 2025, at Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., 612 S Main St, Darlington, SC.
Graveside funeral service with military honors will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at the United States National Cemetery-Florence, 803 E National Cemetery Rd, Florence, SC. Due to VA regulations, will be no viewing at the National Cemetery.
Obituary
Leverne Sansbury was born January 7, 1949 in Darlington, SC, to the late Leverne Peoples and Bernetha Marcus Sansbury. He transitioned from time to eternity on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
Leverne attained his formal education in the public schools of Darlington County, SC, graduating in the Mayo High School Class of 1967. He furthered his education at Florence Darlington Technical College, Florence, SC.
Leverne served in the United States Marine Corps and received an honorable discharge.
Leverne was gainfully employed as a truck driver for Bill Garland’s Trucking Company for numerous years, until his retirement.
Leverne was twice married, and from these two unions, he was blessed with three loving children.
He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life such as cheering for his favorite football team, the Philadelphia Eagles, fishing, and engaging in delightful conversations. Leverne was a very loving individual. His absence will be strongly felt by his loved ones, friends, and colleagues.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings: Hellena Sansbury Smith, Marion Sansbury, Monroe Sansbury, and Dorothy Sansbury Rolle.
Those left to share memories of his life are: a daughter, Maria Roberson (John); two sons, Ozell Sansbury and Leverne Sansbury, Jr.; five grandchildren: D’Ondre’ Cannon, Alayna Smith, DeAundria Sansbury, Aleyiah Bonner and Alyiah Bonner; four great grandchildren: Amari Cannon, Violet Hall, Nikko Roberson and Zion Sansbury; a sister, Schuyler Peoples McFarland; three special nephews, James Smith, George Smith ( Patricia), and Rev. Andrew Sansbury; a special grandniece, Fentress Burke (Steven); several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
