It is with profound sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mr. Leverne McClain of Darlington. Mr. McClain transitioned early Saturday morning, August 22, 2020 in McLeod Hospital. 

Funeral service will be 1:00pm on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at Florence National Cemetery. Interment will follow.  Please adhere to mask wearing and social distancing for this service.

    “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither heights or depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”                                                                                           Romans 8:38-39

     On Saturday, August 22, 2020, Leverne McClain, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 76 years old in McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC.

    Leverne was born December 28, 1943 in Lamar, South Carolina to the late Wesley and Rilla Thomas McClain. He was educated in the public schools of Darlington, South Carolina and was drafted into the United States Army in1965; after his tenure he was honorably discharged. After returning home from his military obligation, he married his beautiful wife, Lillian Richardson. They raised three sons:Charles, Leverne and Timothy. 

    Leverne worked as an Auto Body Technician for Odoms Auto Body and Bryants Auto Body Shops for several years. In 1988, he reached his dream of owning his own business (McClain Body Shop) which he owned and operated for more than 20 years. He was affectionately known to his friends and peers as The Carolina Pig who loved himself a good game of Spades.

    In addition to his parents, Leverne was preceded in death by five siblings: Maedonnie Moses, John Wesley McClain, Sylvester McClain, Jeremiah McClain and Wister McClain.

    Those left to cherish his loving memory are: his wife of 52 years, Lillian R. McClain of the home; three sons, Charles A. McClain (Yashica) of Florence SC, Leverne T. McClain (Lillian) of Florence SC and Timothy W. McClain of Darlington, SC; two brothers, Hayes Isaiah McClain (Leila) of Patterson, NJ and Lorenzo B. McClain (Eliza) of Darlington, SC; two sisters, Dorothy Thomas of Waldorf, MD and Bessie Hart of Darlington, SC; special niece, Deloris Barcus (Karl) of Darlington, SC; brothers and sisters-in-law: James Richardson, Sr. (Joyce), Shirley Taylor (George) and Connie Frierson (Cleve); seven grandchildren: Leveshia McClain, Jaylin Taylor, Alyssa McClain, Alayna McClain, Tasheonia McClain, Ta’mya McClain and Travis Dumas; a host of nieces, nephews,other relatives and friends.
