It is with sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mr. Lawrence "Getta" Wingate of Florence, formally of Darlington. Mr. Wingate expired Sunday, July 5, 2020 from a fire accident.
Graveside service will be 11:00 AM on Monday, July 13, 2020 at Florence National Cemetery. Interment will follow.
The family of Mr. Lawrence Wingate in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state and local community, would love to be surrounded by your presence. They acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly and those with chronic health conditions and ask that those who attend the service ensure you are wearing a MASK and practice social distancing. Obituary
Mr. Lawrence Wingate, a son of the late Thomas Wingate and Rosanna Hall, was born in Darlington, South Carolina on December 18, 1950. The Angel of Death came for Lawrence to live with the Lord forever on Sunday, July 5, 2020 at his home in Florence, SC.
He received his formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools where he graduated from Mayo High School Class of 1969.
He served his country in the United States Army and after his tenure, he was honorably discharged. He was employed at Sonoco in Hartsville where he retired. He lived most of his life in Florence, South Carolina.
Lawrence was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, family member and friend. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors left to cherish his loving memories are: his devoted wife of 15 years,Richardean Gibson Wingate of Florence, SC; three children: Marco Wingate, Caleb Wingate and Morgan Wingate all of Washington, DC; four grandchildren: Zara Wingate, Jeremiah “Redz” Wingate, Zyair Wingate, Milano Wingate and another grand on the way all of Washington, DC; two sisters: Gloria Samuel and Sharon Wilds both of Darlington, SC; five brothers: Murres Hall, Barrett (Diane) Hall, Norris Hall all of Darlington, SC, Harry (Debra) Hall of Florence, SC and Charles (Thomasena) Hall of Sumter, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence of a sister, Gloria Hall Samuel, 1360 High Hill Road, Darlington.
