Mr. Joshua Bruce Obituary

It is with sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mr. Joshua Bruce of Darlington. Mr. Bruce transitioned on Monday, October 11, 2021 at his residence following a brief illness. 

Funeral service is 12 Noon on Saturday, October 16, 2021 in Faith Memorial Gardens, Rogers Road.  Interment will follow.  Please ensure you are social distancing and wearing your mask. 

Obituary

     “For now I am ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand.  I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith, henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto allthem also that love His appearing.”                        II Timothy 4:6-8

    Mr. Joshua Jr. Bruce was born October 19, 1940 in Darlington, South Carolina a son of the late Josh and Mary Ellen Wilson Bruce.   He entered into his final resting place on Monday, October 11, 2021 at his residence. 

    Mr. Bruce was a member of Christ Temple Holiness Church in Darlington, SC where he was baptized in Jesus name.  He sang with the Christ Temple Brotherhood Choir and was a member of the Church’s Golden Jewels Club.  

    Josh received his formal education in the Darlington County Public School System.  He began his working career at Carolina Drug Store as a Delivery Man; then he was employed at Darlington Veneer Company and lastly, he was employed at Dixie’s until he retired.

    On January 6, 1962, he was united in marriage to Pearlie Mae Gray Bruce; this union was blessed with four children.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Serena Bruce-Muldrow; a son, Fredrick “Pom” Gray; a step-daughter, Stephanie Simpson; a granddaughter, Alicia Simpson; two sisters: Mary L. Pierce and Andrena Sturgis; six brothers: Woodrow Bruce, Moses Bruce, Abraham Bruce, Joseph Bruce, Willie James Bruce and Roland Bruce.

    Those who shared the joys and sorrows of life with him and survived to cherish his memory are:  his loving wife of 59 years, Pearlie Mae Bruce of the home; a daughter, Elizabeth Scott (Harold Blair) of Darlington, SC; a son, John Bruce of the home; nine grandchildren: Andrena, Audrey, Michael, Patricia, Rolanda, Gennifer, Kimberlyn, Jamie and LaRon; twelve great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Madge Gray of Paterson, NJ and Patricia Gray-Willis of Atlanta, GA; three brothers-in-law: Jake Gray of Florence, SC, Jasper Gray and Harry (Florene)Gray both of Paterson, NJ; a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence of a daughter, 1945 High Cotton Street, Darlington.  Please make sure masks are worn and social distancing is taking place at residence.
