It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and members of the Murray Family share the passing of Mr. Joseph “Josh” Murray, Jr. of Darlington. Mr. Murray exchanged time for eternity on early Friday morning, November 3, 2023 in a Florence rehab center following an illness.
Funeral service is 1:00PM on Thursday, November 9, 2023 in the Round O Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Interment will follow.
OBITUARY
MR. JOSEPH MURRAY, JR. was born in Darlington County on October 8, 1953, one of two sons born to the late Joseph. Sr. and Ruth Grace Williams Murray. He entered his final resting place on Friday morning, November 3, 2023 at Florence Presbyterian Community after an illness.
At an early age, he attended Round O Baptist Church. He was educated in the Darlington County School System and was a member of the Mayo High School Class of 1972. He lived all his life in Darlington County and as an adult was employed with the Perfection American Gear Plant, Bryant’s Auto Body Shop in Darlington and at ESAB Manufacturing of Florence where he retired in 2015. He was a member of the Renegade softball team.
“Josh” or “Pender” as he was called by his family and friends was a quiet yet a jokingly and fun-loving man. He was the father of two sons, Julius Dixon and Victor Robinson.
Those who are left to cherish his memory are: his two sons, Julius (Dawn) Dixon and Victor Robinson; six grandchildren, Jordyn, Janiyah, Jerimyah, and Jayce Dixon, all of Florence, SC, Treyvon and Davontae Moses both of Darlington, SC; two brothers, Rufus (Grace) Murray of Bennettsville, SC, Robert (Sophia) Gregg and one sister, Annie L. Murray, both of Darlington, SC; one aunt, Hattie Thrope of Greenville, SC; several nieces and nephews, a host of cousins, and friends.
Joseph was preceded in death by his father and mother, Joseph, Sr., and Ruth Grace Murray, three older sisters, Josephine M. Gregg, Evelyn V. Murray, Lorraine Murray and several uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at 108 Elbow Road, Darlington.
