It is with heartfelt sympathy that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mr. Joseph "Bobo" Curtis, III.  Mr. Curtis transitioned from labor to reward on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 in a Florence medical center.  

Funeral service will be 1:00 PM on Monday, February 17, 2020 at Flat Creek Baptist Church.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

 The Journey begins…

Mr. Joseph ‘Bobo’ Curtis was born in Darlington, SC to the late Joseph ‘June’ and Carnell Owens Curtis. He departed this life on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 after extended illness. 

Joseph ‘Bobo’ aka ‘Joe’ was a loving son, brother, husband, father and friend.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He received his formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools.  After graduating from Mayo High School Joseph moved to Washington DC and later to Clinton, Maryland where he was employed with various employers, Murray’s Meat Packing Company and finally with United Parcel Service as a delivery driver and then a tractor trailer driver.  He was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler Fan and enjoyed playing Fantasy football where he was known as ‘Dollar Bill’.  He loved watching game shows, Gunsmoke, High Chaparral and shows on TV Land and INSP channels.

Survivors include:  His wife of 26 years, Renee LaVonne Curtis, of the home, two sons, Robert A. Curtis of Clinton, MD and Brandon M. Curtis of the home.  Two sisters, Renee Darlene Curtis of the home and Michelle C. (Andre) Lloyd of Swedesboro, NJ.  His nephews, Andre Jr. & Kai D. Lloyd of Swedesboro, NJ; Damon Samuel of Woodbridge VA.; Damarco Samuel of Darlington, SC and Breon Barnes of CT.  Two Godsisters: Mrs. Bessie R. Gilbert & Mrs. Detrice S. Clinton.  One Godbrother: Mr. Tommie L. Borum Jr.; His Godmother / Aunt, Mrs. Mary S. Dargan of Darlington. His three bestfriends: Mr. Randolph Scott, Mr. Edward McRavin and Ms. Natalie Baker. 

Aunts:  Helen S. (Warfield) Kendall of Woodbridge, Va.; Terri S. Samuel of Clinton, MD.  Tracy Matthews , Shirley Moses-Samuel of Alexandria, VA.; Kathy (Ed) Bridges of Wallace, SC.; Alva B. Forsyth of Ontario Canada and Gloria Brathwaite of NYC; Samantha Moses of Cheraw, SC; Janie C. Thompson and Eletha C. Weeks of NYC; Linda M. Curtis of Florence, SC; Louise Curtis of Darlington, SC.   

Uncles:  Rev. Coleman (Patricia) Cannon Sr.; Levern R. Curtis of Darlington, SC.; Hayard Little of Elloree, SC. ;Travis (Annie) Moses of Wallace, SC ; Danny (Angela) Moses of Columbia, SC; Johnny Moses of Alexandria, Va.; Walter (Sharon) Moses  of Sanford, Va. and Harold Burns of Cheraw, SC.

A host of cousins and friends.

Visitation for relatives and friends of the Curtis family will be held at the residence, 1520 Windsor Drive, Darlington.
