It is with sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the Dewitt family announce the passing of Mr. Johnnie James Dewitt of Darlington. Mr. Dewitt exchanged time for eternity on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Mt Zion Baptist Church, 3208 N Governor Williams Hwy, Darlington, SC. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Brother Johnnie James Dewitt was born on January 1, 1939 in Darlington, South Carolina, a son of the late Mr. Hilton L. Dewitt and Mrs. Beulah Samuel. He departed this earthly life at Carolina Pines Hospital in Hartsville, South Carolina on Monday, July 15, 2024.
Johnnie received his education in the Darlington County Public School System.
Mr. Dewitt was united in marriage to the late Mrs. Charlie Mae Jackson Dewitt on March 07, 1958 and this union four children were born.
He was a family-oriented man and took pride in providing support to his family. Mr. Dewitt was employed with Young Pecan Company and retired in the early 2000s. He was an avid Nascar fan and loved Nascar driver Joey Logano, playing the guitar, and the singer Michael McDonald.
Johnnie accepted the Christ and understood that he needed a Savior and was a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Dovesville, South Carolina.
Mr. Dewitt will be lovingly remembered by those who knew and loved him, especially his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Those left to carry the legacy and cherish the memories of Johnnie James Dewitt are: four children: Johnnie Dewitt, Jr., Diane (John) Bruce, Rebecca (Moses) Carolina, and Judith (Eddie) Barber; six grandchildren: Quantashae Dewitt, Dana (Raleigh) Jett, Courtney Williams, Joshua Dewitt, Justin Dewitt, and Kendra Carolina; a special brother and sister-in-law, Theola (Marcus) Samuel; a brother; sisters-in-law: Pastor Caldonia Lyde, Linda Wormley and Kathy Nettles, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Those who preceded Johnnie James Dewitt are: his mother, Beulah Samuel; his father, Hilton L. Dewitt; a adopted daughter, Leatha James; brothers: Hilton Dewitt II, James “Bo” Dewitt, Luther (Margaret) Dewitt and Thomas (Annie Mae) Pierce; sisters: Betty Brown and Bernice Wortham, brother-in-law, Ray Wortham, sisters-in-law: Patricia Moses, Dorothy Samuel, and Thomasina Gregory.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence, 745 Cedar Ridge Rd (Dovesville Community), Darlington.
