Mr. John Allen Ross

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear loved one, John Allen Ross, on Tuesday, September 8, 2020.

The family is receiving visitors at 1321 Pineforest Ln, Darlington, SC from 4:00pm-8:00pm daily.

Due to the current nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, we ask that you be mindful of the family by wearing your mask and practicing social distancing. Thank you in advance for your concern and cooperation.

Funeral service will be 11AM on Saturday, September 12, 2020 in Faith Memorial Gardens.  Interment will follow. 

Obituary

John Allen Ross, son of the late Charlie “Buck” Ross Sr. and Ada Kelly Ross, was born on January 22, 1955. He departed this life on Tuesday September 8, 2020.

He received his education in the Darlington public school system and graduated from Mayo High school in 1973. He was a member of New Providence Baptist Church. He later began attending St. Matthews United Apostolic Church with his family.

Allen was a hardworking man with a very strong will. After a brief stent in the Army, he worked 15 years with CSX Railroad and then with English Plumbing. Up until his health began to fail he was able to find work that helped support his family. He loved to laugh and joke. He enjoyed cars and riding.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Sr. and Ada Ross, a brother Charlie Ross Jr., and two sisters. Left to cherish his memories is his wife of 40 years Lucille McNeil Ross; his children: Andrew (Angela) McNeil of Effingham, SC, Kendra (Curtis) Thompson of Darlington, SC and Andric (Medea) McNeil of Columbia, SC.; two special granddaughters: Courtney Thompson and Sha’Kayla Thompson, five grandsons: Curtis Thompson, Dallas Carraway, Ryan McNeil, Joshua McNeil and Andric McNeil Jr., and one great granddaughter, Taliyah Goodman; one sister, Clara (Charles) Ross, one brother, Jimmy Ross, two special cousins/sisters: Ada (Jimmy) Hamlin of Darlington and Patricia (James) Grant of Columbus, GA; mother-in-law, Lucille McNeil; Brother and Sisters-in-law: Johnny (Barbara Jean) McNeil, Coleman (Martha) McNeil, David (Lillie Mae) McNeil, Sam McNeil, Clara (Johnny Lee) Williams, Almeta (Nathaniel) Moses, Eleanor (Alphonso) Moses, Hattie (Raleigh) Dubose, Ruby McNeil, Caldonia (James) Hunter, Howard McKay, Edna Ross and Ethel Ross. Close friends Sandra and Jody Mills,

Alphonso and Ann Chambers, and William and Bernetha English. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other close relatives and friends. He loved his family.
