Mr. James Edward McLeod

It is with profound sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mr. James Edward McLeod of Florence, formally of Darlington. Mr. McLeod transitioned peacefully on Friday afternoon in Faith Healthcare. 

Funeral service will be 3:00pm on Thursday, October 22, 2020 in the Cemetery of Lawson Grove Baptist Church. Interment will follow. 

Obituary

     “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.”

     Mr. James Edward McLeod was born in Darlington, SC on June 2, 1950 a son of the late Cleveland Sr. and Calperta Johnson McLeod.  He departed this life on Friday, October 16, 2020 at Palmetto Faith Healthcare Center, Florence, SC after an extended illness.

     He received his formal education in the Darlington County Public School System graduating from Mayo High School Class of 1968.

     He was employed at Nucor Steel, Darlington Veneer Mill and also Pulpwood.

     At an early age, he was baptized at Lawson Grove Baptist Church.

     Those left to cherish his memory are:  his daughter, Dr. Charlotte Cynthia (Tony) McLeod-McDavid of Anderson, SC; one grandson, Avery Langston McDavid of Anderson, SC; a step-son, Allen McPhail, Sr.; three brothers and four sisters: Cleveland (Shirley) McLeod of Darlington, SC, Alberta (John M.) Wright of Florence, SC, Mary Wright of Charlotte, NC, Preston (Linda) McLeod of Darlington, SC, Paul McLeod of Lorain, OH, Terry (Dr. Gerald) Cummings of McDonough, GA and Shelia Samuel of Darlington, SC; one special loving sister-in-law, Rosa McLeod of Darlington, SC; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

   James was loved so dearly by his family. He enjoyed playing and teasing all of his nieces and nephews.  He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

   He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie McLeod, Sr., two nephews, Ronnie McLeod, Jr. and Dante Eugene Wallace.
