Mr. Jacob William “JW” McKenzie

With heartfelt sympathy, the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the McKenzie family announce the passing of Mr. Jacob McKenzie, of Florence, SC. Mr. McKenzie transitioned on Sunday, August 24, 2025, after an illness.

There will be no visitation for the family at the residence.

Public viewing will be 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM, Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., 612 S. Main St, Darlington, SC.

Graveside funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Faith Memorial Gardens, Rogers Rd, Darlington, SC. Interment will follow.

Obituary

    “When I consider thy heavens.  The work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; what is man, that thou art mindful of Him?  And thou visitest Him?  Psalm 8:3-4

    Mr. Jacob William “J.W.” McKenzie was born in Kershaw County, SC on December 29, 1939, a son of the late Weldon and Mary Ballard McKenzie. He entered into his final resting place on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Honorage Nursing Center, Florence, SC.

    He did odd jobs and later he became employed doing Construction Work in North Carolina.

    “J.W.”, as he was affectionately called by family and friends, loved his family and loved gathering with friends.   If he saw some he knew, he had to stop and chat with them. You could ask him about anyone in Darlington County and he would know them or knew some of their relatives.

    “J.W.” was a kind son, brother, uncle, family member and friend.  He loved watching westerns on TV, playing checkers and just talking to people he knew was his passion.

    Those left to cherish his memory are:  two sisters:  Naomi (David) Pratt of Darlington, SC and Ruth (James Lee) Dubose of Florence, SC; a special niece and nephew, Letha Martin and Chester Martin of Darlington, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

    Jacob was preceded in death by:  his parents: two brothers: Johnny McKenzie and James McKenzie; six sisters: Lille Mae Bruce, Janie Harris, Lela Bell Gregg, Mary Jackson, Leola Ray and Patricia Ham.
