Mr. Isaiah H. Rakestraw

It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the Rakestraw family announce the passing of Mr. Isaiah H. Rakestraw of Darlington. Mr. Rakestraw expired on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, in McLeod Hospice House, Florence, SC, following an illness. 

Graveside service is 11:00AM on Saturday, July 6, 2024, in New Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery, 4445 Hoffmeyer Rd, Darlington, SC. Interment will follow. 

Obituary

   Mr. Isaiah H. Rakestraw was born January 3, 1930, in Augusta, GA, a son of the late Joe Rakestraw and Ethel Foster Rakestraw. He entered into his final resting place on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at McLeod Hospice House, Florence, SC.

    His family relocated to Monroe, NC, where he attended Winchester High School.

    Isaiah was united in marriage to the late Irene “Abe” Wingate Rakestraw.

   He was employed at E. D. Pew Lumber Company in Darlington, SC, until he retired.

    He was preceded in death by a son, George “Duck” Wingate; a daughter, Ruby Lee Wingate Coe; and by his eight siblings: Carrie, George, Eugene, Joe, Leola, Sarah, Louise, and Grace.

    Those left to cherish his memory are seven children: Leola Rakestraw Moses, Regina Rakestraw, Veronica Rakestraw Ings, Pamela Rakestraw, Roosevelt (Betty) Davis, Glenda (Laverne) Holmes, and Roberta Wingate; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence, 1361 Timmonsville Hwy, Darlington, SC, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm daily.
