Mr. Herbert Warren McCurry

With heartfelt sympathy, the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the McCurry family announce the passing of Mr. Herbert Warren McCurry of Darlington, SC. Mr. McCurry transitioned Friday, August 8, 2025, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC, following an illness.

The family will be receiving friends daily at the home of a sister, Ms. Latasha McCurry at 607 S Main St, Darlington, SC.

Public viewing will be held 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM, Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., 612 S Main St, Darlington, SC.

Graveside funeral services will be held 11:30 AM, Friday, August 15, 2025, at Faith Memorial Gardens, Rogers Rd, Darlington, SC.

Obituary

    Mr. Herbert Warren McCurry was born in Darlington, SC on November 24, 1966 a son of the late James Edward McCurry and Rosa Lee Warren McCurry.  He peacefully entered into his final resting place on Friday, August 8, 2025 at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC.

    Herbert or ‘Herb”, even Uncle Nosey, as he was affectionately called by family and friends was a graduate of St. John’s High School with the Class of 1988.  He attended Macedonia Baptist Church as a young boy.  He was a humble and  kind soul always smiling.  Herbert loved the TV Show, Gunsmoke, being outside watching cars and people go by the house.  He was a faithful Dallas Cowboy Fan, loved doing yardwork, loved all his family, friends and especially his old Neighborhood.  He would help everyone no matter who or where they were.  He was a loving and giving person to everyone he came in contact with.

    Herbert lived all his life in Darlington, SC where he was disabled and couldn’t work but Herbert didn’t let that stop him from helping others.

    Those left to cherish his memory are:  his sister, Latasha (Edward Samuel) McCurry of the home; two daughters: Shametka Sanders of Hartsville, SC and Cassandra Renee Sanders of Florence, SC; three grandchildren: Imari Goodson, Armoni Goodson and Allani Goodson all of Hartsville, SC; three sisters: Kathleen Campbell of Brooklyn, NY, Linda (Clifford) McCoy and April Thomas both of Darlington, SC; a brother, Reginald McCurry of Florence, SC; his special niece, Shamoney (Dirbra) Williams of Dovesville, SC; two special nephews: Robert Pendergrass of Charlotte, NC and DayuonMcCurry of Darlington, SC; he had a whole special family: Mitchell Gibson, Toni (Danielle) Gibson, Dian Gibson and Nikki Gibson; special cousins: Janice Dubose, Janice Joe, Tonia Ray, Michelle Wallace, Akeisha Lyde, Michael Jordan, Kalvin Williamson and Sonya Fox; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends that will miss him dearly.

   He was preceded in death by: a brother, Curtis Lee McCurry, and a special great nephew, Oreon “Oreo” Byrd.
