Mr. Grover Laverne Damon, Jr.

It is with sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell~Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and members of the Damon family announce the peaceful transition of Mr. Grover L. Damon, Jr. of Darlington. Mr. Damon exchanged time for eternity on Sunday, November 26, 2023 in a Darlington nursing facility following an illness. 

Memorial service is 12 Noon on Friday, December 1, 2023 at Savannah Grove AME Church Cemetery.  Inurnment will follow. 

Obituary 

    Mr. Grover Laverne Damon, Jr. departed this life on Sunday, November 26, 2023 peacefully at the Medford Nursing Center in Darlington, SC. He was the son of the late Grover Laverne Damon, Sr. and Pearlina Slater Damon. His wife of 64 years, Clarise Green Damon preceded him in death.

    Grover was born in Darlington County and attended Galilee and Spaulding Elementary Schools. He only completed 6th grade as he had to help work on the farm.  After marriage, he and his wife moved to Paterson, NJ where he was employed performing factory work. He was a member of Thankful Baptist Church in Paterson, NJ where he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He was ordained as a Deacon. In later years, he ventured out to become self-employed owning a cleaning service. In 2001, he retired and moved back to SC.

    Grover is survived by: two children, Grover Fitzgerald (Toni) Damon lll and Debra Damon McKenzie; a god-daughter, Phoebe Hammonds (Evens) Thermitus; five grandchildren: Brittany McKenzie, Breanna McKenzie, Kenae Damon, Taylor Damon and Aiden Damon; one great grandson, Ethan (the Kid) Freeman; Siblings: Lewis R (Betty) Damon, Barron S (late Georgia Pearson) Damon, Pearlie (late Dewey) Hammonds, Jr., Rev. Bobby G (late Ethel Coward) Damon, Carolyn (Allen) Munnerlyn, Billy (Beverly) Damon and Rev. Dr. D Pennie Damon; a host of dear nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence of a brother and sister-in-law, Lewis R. and Betty Damon, 1432 Timmonsville Hwy, Darlington beginning on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm.
