My heart is broken to learn of the untimely passing of my dear friend and SHIPMATE Godfrey Gregg. He was not only the definition of the word "SHIPMATE" but a true friend indeed! This will be hard for me to handle. Fair Winds and Following Seas Doc!

I'm learning of Gregg's passing as of November 20th, 2020. There are really no words cannot be added, for honestly we will, those among us reading our independent responses will know, and only God knows what's in our heart at this time of grief. What i say here, Gregg and myself have exchanged during conversations throughout the years I have known him. He was a very devoted family man, and his service to our country reflected he was a compassionate gentleman. As i have got to know, Gregg W1GRE, started thru our love of our service/hobby of amateur radio. Of his passing is now a deep impact, that's how i perceived Gregg, his friends, or anyone including myself called him Gregg. My experience of death with 3 of my loved family members during my civilian deployment to my sandbox Afghanistan was extremely rough because first death was my only brother, 50, of pancreatic cancer, my plane for e-leave just leaving the tarmac, he passed, and arrived to my brother's grave before they took the overhead covering, and chairs, i was able to say my goodbye for he prayed for a brother a few years prior to be being born, and learned of this prayer from my Aunt Ton. The 2 passing's happened after return after my completion with of the Afghanistan year. Everyone grieves differently, but we have all experienced passing of a loved one. This post isn't about me, its an example of how Gregg effected my journey in this life. I am proud to known, Gregg. Because of him, our lives was enriched, and for myself have cherished experiences, and Gregg gifted me with his conversations.

I'm reminded of a few biblical scriptures, Revelation 21:4 - He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. 1 Thessalonians 4:13 - Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. And lastly, 1 Corinthians 15:55-57 - O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

I would like to send me and my family’s deepest condolences during this most difficult times in the loss of our dear classmate Alfonso (Fonz) Gregg!
Fonz was a “gentle giant”who have always put everyone else’s issues ahead of his own. He had a “self-sacrificing” spirit. We will miss him and his antics but we are happy that he suffers no more. May Jehovah comfort his family and friends knowing that they have always been his priority. He will be sorely missed! Rest In Peace Fonz.

Remember talking on ham radio many times when Alfonso was passing through Marion. Quite a talker and it was obvious he enjoyed the hobby. His voice and personality will be missed. My sympathy goes out to his family.
