It is with sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mr. Godfrey Alfonso Gregg, Jr. of Summerville, SC, formally of Marion, SC. Mr. Gregg expired on Monday, November 09, 2020 in a Charleston hospital. 

Memorial Service will be 10 AM on Friday, November 20, 2020 in Florence National Cemetery. 

Life’s Reflections

Mr. Godfrey Alfonso Gregg, Jr. was born in Marion, South Carolina on December 8, 1948 a son of Esther Paige Collier and the late Godfrey Gregg, Sr.  He departed this life on Monday, November 9, 2020 at Trident Medical Center in Goose Creek, SC.

He was a graduate of Johnakin High School, Friendship Junior College, Rock Hill, SC, University of New Hampshire, University of Maryland and was a State Certified Pharmacy Technician from 1982 – 2020.

He served his country in the United States Navy of more than 20 years where after his tenure, he was honorably discharged.

“Alfonso”, as he was affectionately called, attended Varick A.M.E. Zion Church in New Haven, Connecticut.

Godfrey Alfonso Gregg, Jr., Hospital Corpsman First Class leaves to cherish his love and memories are:  his mother, Esther Collier of New Haven, CT; his wife of 35 years, Jacqueline E. Gregg of the home; one son, Derek Gregg; two daughters: Kavon Gregg and Destiny Gregg; his five grandchildren:  Dajae Rose, Jahon Rose, Omari Fennell, Xiomara Fennell, Asher Fennell and Zim Gregg; his siblings: Nyemah Sabbakhan, Lynn K. Burgess (John Sr.), Karen P. Bethea, Rosylin Paige-Powell, Donnie Bethea (Anita), Richard Bethea, Robert Bethea (Debra), Geraldine Collier (Lorenzo, deceased) and Camile Collier (Andrea); a sister-in-law, Hillary Collier; an aunt Claretha Conner; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dasha Gregg; a brother, Lester Collier, Jr.; his aunts: Lucile Holloway, Vester Johnson and Carrie Clark.
