With heartfelt sympathy, the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the Alford family announce the passing of Mr. Freddie Dozier Alford of Darlington, SC. Mr. Alford transitioned Thursday, March 20, 2025, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, in Florence, SC.

Starting Wednesday, March 26, 2025, visitation for family and friends will be held daily from 4:00-8:00 PM at the home of a sister, Joyce Robertson, 103 Henry Street, Darlington, SC.

Public viewing will be 1:00-4:00 PM, Friday, March 28, 2025, in the Chapel of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., 612 S Main St, Darlington, SC. 

Funeral service will be 12:00 PM noon, Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Bethel AME Church, 1321 S Main St, Darlington, SC.

Interment will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, March 31, 2025, at the US National Cemetery-Florence, 803 E National Cemetery Rd, Florence, SC. 
 

Obituary

    Mr. Freddie Dozier Alford was born January 21, 1950, in Darlington, SC, a son of the late Alexander and Laura Mae Gibson Alford. On Thursday, March 20, 2025, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC, Freddie departed his earthly home. He is now resting in the arms of his Heavenly Father.

    Freddie received his formal education in the Darlington County Public School System graduating from Mayo High School Class of 1970.

    Freddie served his Country in the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served. After his tenure, he was honorably discharged after serving 3 years as a CPL. While in the Marines, he earned 3 medals: National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Rifle Marksman Badge. Freddie was a faithful member of the American Legion Post 210, Darlington, SC.

   Freddie attended Florence-Darlington Technical College furthering his education.

    Freddie’s last place of employment Hartsville Oil Mill in Darlington, SC before he went into business for himself serving as a Handyman to many. From cutting grass, to repairing refrigerators, lawn mowers, washing machines/dryer, etc. You name it, I’m sure he could repair it, if not, just know he gave it his all.

    Freddie was a faithful member of Bethel A.M.E. Church where he served on the Usher Board. He loved his church family.

    Freddie was loved and admired by many. His family adored him. Spreading happiness and sharing laughter was what he was well known for. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He had a zest for life, and he lived it to the fullest.Despite his ongoing battle with cancer, he never lost his sense of humor. Throughout his entire journey, you would still see him with a smile and cracking jokes. He had a great ability to make others smile and his sense of humor will be deeply missed.

    Freddie leaves to cherish his loving memory: his four children: Sheila Thomas of Hephzibah, GA, Harry Washington of Bennettsville, SC, Fredrick Alford and LaShawn Alford both of Darlington, SC; three sisters, Laura Fields, Daisy Smart, and Joyce Robertson all of Darlington, SC; one brother: Henry (Deloris) Alford of Darlington, SC; seven grandchildren: Shenerra Waiters of Columbia, SC and Harry Waiters, III of Ocala, Florida, Deawon Alford of Dovesville, SC, Ja’kim Washington of Mullins, SC, Zion Washington, Harry Washington, Jr. both of Bennettsville, SC and Heavyn Washington, Marion, SC; four great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.

    He was preceded in death by: a brother, Alexander Alford, Jr., and a sister, Gloria Jean Alford Graham.
