Mr. Ernest Levi "Bo" Edwards

It is with sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mr. Ernest Levi Edwards, affectionately called "Bo" of Darlington. Mr. Edwards passed early Monday morning, November 1, 2021 in a Florence hospital following an illness. 

Funeral service is 11:00AM on Friday, November 12, 2021 in US National Cemetery, Florence. Interment to follow. Please adhere to mask wearing and social distancing for this service. ​

Obituary

     Mr. Ernest Levi “Bo” Edwards was born in Florence, SC on January 12, 1945 a son of the late Governor and Martha Harrison Edwards.  He peacefully entered into his final resting place on Monday, November 1, 2021 at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC.

     “Bo”, as he was affectionately called, received his formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools graduating from Mayo High School Class of 1967.

      He was drafted into the United States Army at age 18 where he fought in the Vietnam Conflict.  While there, he was seriously injured and hospitalized at Walter Reed Hospital Army Medical Center, Washington, DC.  He was rewarded with a Purple Heart for his Service in the Conflict of which he was honorably discharged.

      After his release, he made his home in New Haven, CT and resided there until 1998 when he relocated to back to his roots, Darlington, SC.

     At an early age, “Bo” joined Macedonia Baptist Church but upon his return home he joined Savannah Grove Baptist Church on July 24, 2005 where he faithfully served until his illness.

     “Bo” loved his Southern 500 Nascar and also Drag Racing where he received many accolades.  He loved watching ice skating, tennis and his love of music.  You could not catch “Bo” without a cap off his head.  His favorite sport was football and his favorite team was the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers.

     “Bo” was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.  He was a good-hearted person that would give you the shirt off his back.  To know him was to love him.

      Those left to cherish his memory are:  his loving daughter, Danika (Calvin) Mackey of Hamden, CT; his loving son, Donyel Edwards of New Haven, CT; two grandchildren: Torrell Heyward and Jaiden McMorris both of Hamden, CT; a sister, Ann Edwards Reynolds of Darlington, SC; like a sister/cousin, Mary Ann (Horace) Williams of Darlington, SC; one sister-in-law, Juanita Wright of Quinby, SC; a nieces and nephews: Robert (Elizabeth) Edwards, Joann Reynolds both of New Haven, CT, Sonya (Odell) Fox of Florence, SC, Gerald (Latasha) Edwards of Quinby, SC, Pastor Joe (Lachadria) Reynolds of Florence, SC, Todd (Kimberly Cobb) Reynolds of Georgia and Corey Lamont Edwards (Veronica, fiancée) of Darlington, SC; special cousins, Herbert McCurry and Latasha (Edward) Samuel both of Darlington, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends; like a daughter, LaShonda (Eric) Jacobs; like grandchildren: Elijah Jacobs, Eric Jacobs Jr. all of Darlington, SC; special friends: Darnell (Linda) Freeman of Myrtle Beach, SC, Marshall (Sherry) Gambrell of New Haven, CT;  Juan Baez and Michael Paecht both of West Haven, CT.

     He was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald “Bunk” Edwards and a sister-in-law, Linda Reynolds Edwards.
