It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and members of the Joyner family announce the transition of Mr. Ernest Joyner of Darlington. Mr. Joyner exchanged time for eternity on Friday, September 22, 2023 in a Darlington nursing facility following an extended illness.
Funeral service is 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at United States National Cemetery, Florence. Interment will follow.

Mr. Ernest Joyner was born on October 7, 1954 in Darlington County, South Carolina a son of the late Belton Joyner, Sr. and Sarah Mae Harrison Joyner. He departed this earthly life on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Medford Nursing Center, Darlington, South Carolina.
Ernest received his formal education in Darlington County Public School System. After graduating, Ernest served his Country in the United States Army and faithfully served for seven years in which he was honorably discharged. He later worked at several nursing facilities as a Certified Nursing Assistant for many years. He enjoyed fishing, doing yard work, fixing things and most of all talking to people.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents: Belton Joyner, Sr. and Sarah Joyner; a brother Belton Joyner, Jr.; two sisters: Bessie Mae Graham and Mary James.
Memories of him will be cherished by: his wife, Edith Johnson Joyner of Darlington, SC; two sons: Ernest Dominik Joyner and Katrell Ludd; a daughter, Jennifer Joyner; a step-daughter, Takeila (Derek) Flynn; a step-son, Frederick Fox; five sisters: Joanne Joyner, Carrie (Keith) Byrd, Patricia Johnson, Lubertha (Alexander) Scott all of Society Hill, SC and Ethel (Jimmy) Patterson, of Florence, SC. In addition, he leaves behind his grandchildren: Jordyn and Taryne; a special grandson, Kyreeq Fox; a special nephew, Scottie Johnson; a host of nieces, nephews; several sisters and brothers-in-law; other relatives and friends.
The family of Ernest Joyner would also like to express their appreciation to the staff of Medford Senior Care for their compassion and care provided for several years.
