With heartfelt sorrow, the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the Bacote family announce the transition of Mr. Eric DeQuincy "Pooh" Bacote. Pooh exchanged time for eternity on Monday, June 30, 2025, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC, following an illness.
Visitation for family and friends will be held 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Sunday, July 6th and Monday, July 7th at the Mayo Hall of Fame, Jessamine St, Darlington, SC.
Public viewing will be held 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM, Monday, July 7, 2025, at Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., 612 S Main St, Darlington, SC.
Funeral service will be held 12:00 PM, Tuesday, July 8, 2025, in the Gymnasium of Darlington Middle School, 150 Pinedale Dr, Darlington, SC. Interment will follow in Faith Memorial Gardens, Rogers Rd, Darlington, SC.

Eric DeQuincy Bacote, affectionately known as “Pooh,” was born on November 29, 1970 in Darlington, South Carolina, to Curtis Lee Bacote and the late Bettye McIver Bacote. On June 30, 2025, at the age of 54, Pooh entered into eternal rest at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC.
Pooh graduated from Mayo High School, home of the Golden Bears. He was employed at Evans Street Inc. until its closing and later worked at Darlington Veneer Co., where he continued to work faithfully until his passing. Pooh was known for his quiet and humble spirit. He had a deep love for animals, especially his cats and dogs, who brought him comfort and companionship throughout his life. He was a proud fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and enjoyed spending time with his brothers and friends.
Pooh was preceded in death by his mother, Betty McIver Bacote; his brother, Tony Foskey; his uncle, Tony McIver; his sister, Curtisha Wingate and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his father, Curtis Lee Bacote; his brothers: Maurice (Lavonda) Green, Ornando Goins, Shawn (Pamela) Goins, Calvin (Edna) Lewis and Chad (Shana) Dewitt; his sister, Nikki Lighty; his god-sister, Saundra Graham; close friends: Jay Samuel and Lorenzo Williams; cousins Jay McIver, Michelle McIver, Rachel Davis and Raquel Farjardo; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and co-workers who will deeply miss him.
Pooh’s quiet strength, gentle presence, and the love he shared with his family, friends, co-workers, and his beloved pets will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
