Mr. Eric Bernard Sawyer

It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff and members of the Sawyer Family announces the passing of Mr. Eric Bernard Sawyer of Columbia, South Carolina, formally of Darlington, South Carolina. Mr. Sawyer passed on Friday, February 18, 2022 in Columbia, South Carolina. 

Funeral service is 10:00AM on Friday, February 25, 2022 in US National Cemetery, Florence. Interment will follow. Please adhere to mask wearing and social distancing for this service. 

Obituary

     Mr. Eric Bernard Sawyer was born on January 18, 1965 in Darlington, SC to Mr. Hezekiah Sawyer and Mrs. Margaret Lunn Sawyer.  He entered into his eternal rest on  Friday, February 18, 2022.

    He was educated in the public schools of Darlington and graduated from St John’s High School in Darlington, SC.

     Eric was baptized at an early age at Macedonia Baptist Church.  He was employed at Shaw Industries in Columbia, SC prior to his death.  He enjoyed Gamecock football and was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys (“How bout them Cowboys?”).  Eric enjoyed grilling out, landscaping, and absolutely loved Thanksgiving dinner at the home of his sister-in-law Wanda.

     Eric was united in holy wedlock to Gail Casley Sawyer on January 24, 1994.  They were married for 28 years and together they shared four amazing children (3 daughters and 1 son): Sydney Ashley Sawyer, Courtney Taylor Sawyer, Eric Brandon Sawyer and Logan Leigh Sawyer who will miss their daddy dearly.

     Eric was extremely charismatic and anyone he met was not a stranger for very long.  He leaves a legacy of love and care to many friends, family, neighbors and co-workers.  In addition to Gail and their kids, those left to cherish his memory are: his parents Hezekiah and Margaret Sawyer; two brothers: Mack (Jeronell) Sawyer and Brian (Aundria) Sawyer; three sisters: Kenya Parnell, Sonya Parnell and Renee (Junior) Shepard; Daughters: Erica (Rober Latson) Josey and Lauren Edmond; Grandson: Robert Lee Latson III; Aunts and uncles: Eva Mae O’Neal, Mildred Meadows, Vera Richardson, Roethyll Lunn, Betty Lunn Goodson, Sylvester Lunn, and Nathaniel C. Rucker; Special cousins: Barbara (Lavern) James and Pecolia (Willie) Speller; Sisters-in law: Lillian Casley, Wanda (Jacob) Wilson, Faye Casley, Coretta (Mike Stevens) Casley and Samantha Casley of Florence, SC; Best friend of more than 50 years: Richard Lighty; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loving aunts, uncles, loving friends, neighbors, and co-workers.
