It is with profound sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and members of the Mack family announce the passing of Mr. Edward Mack of Darlington. Mr. Mack exchanged time for eternity on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at his residence following an illness. 

Funeral service is 12:00 Noon on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Lawson Grove Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Obituary

     “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, no pain anymore, the former things have passed away.”  ~Revelation 21:4

     Edward E. Mack, Sr., age 81, and a native of Darlington, SC, passed away on January 18, 2023 at his residence. He was born on May 22, 1942, a son of the late Cooley Mack Sr. and Rosa Lee Stevenson Mack.

     Edward received his formal education in the Darlington County School System, laying the foundation for a lifetime of learning and growth.

     Edward began his professional journey by exploring various occupations, working several jobs until he found one that truly resonated with him. In 1969, he joined Nucor Steel, where he dedicated two decades of hard work and commitment until his well-deserved retirement in 1989.

     Edward was a member of Lawson Grove Baptist Church, where his faith was central to his life.

    Edward is preceded in death by:  his wife, Rosa Mae Mack; his children: Edward E. Mack Jr., Eric Mack and Wayne Mack. He is now reunited with his parents and departed loved ones.

     He is survived by:  his children:  Lieutenant Colonel Mikel A. Sawyer, US Army, Retired, (Natalie) of Allen, Texas, Jacqueline Mack of Florence, SC and Tori A. James of Darlington, SC. Edward is also survived by: his brother, Alva (Betty) Mack of Darlington, SC and sister, Almerta Waddell of Philadelphia, PA.

     In addition to his immediate family, Edward leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Edward’s presence will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence of a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. Alva (Bunny) and Mrs. Betty Mack, 122 Chalmers Street, Darlington, South Carolina 29532. Visiting hours will be from 4:00pm to 7:00pm daily.
