A LIFE OF SERVICE

Ethan "Jack" Johnson was born April 22, 1941 in Clarendon County, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Ethan Johnson and Lou Ida Conyers Johnson.

Ethan was baptized at an early age at St John’s Temple in Society Hill, South Carolina. On Saturday, July 4th, 2020 an angel came and carried him away to a peaceful place.

Jack attended the Rosenwald School in Society Hill, South Carolina. After which he moved to Brooklyn, New York where he was drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam war. He was honorable discharge from the United States Army in 1967. After his military service, he returned to Brooklyn, New York and married the love of his life, the late Johnnie Mae Johnson.

Jack loved fixing things for himself and others, be it giving new life to an old appliance, a car, floor, you name it, Jack could repurpose it. And he used this gift of his to bless others. He had a humble gentle spirit , but a HUGE giving heart when it came to sharing this gift of his in earlier years he was the family photographer. Jack loved taking your picture whether you were ready or not. He had a vast catalog of family moments captured on film, Jack loved coming to Society Hill every several times a year, every year with his wife, Johnnie Mae and Buffy, later with Tiara and Andrew.

He moved back to Society Hill after the passing of his wife,  he retired from Park West Autobody, Brooklyn, New York and he relocated back to Society Hill, SC to be near his sister the late Bessie Johnson Coleman.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving daughter, Tonya (Terrance) Deflorimonte of Brooklyn, New York; three loving grandchildren, Andrew, Tiara, and Terrance, Jr. all of Brooklyn, New York; seven great-grands, Jahmya, Malik, Avery, Amir, Makayla, Elijah, and Nicholas; a sister, Hazel J. Hopkins of Williamsburg, VA; a brother, John ‘Jimmy’ ( Ann) Johnson of Bronx, NY, brother-in-law, Herman Bagley of Smithfield, NC, two sisters-in-law Joyce Cox of Brooklyn, New York and Joann Dunbar of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; two aunts, Pansy L. Conyers of Pinewood, South Carolina and Rev. Lue Conyers of Sumter, South Carolina. A host of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly, and cousins, other relatives and friends including Anthony Carter of Brooklyn New York, a special family friend.  A very special friend, Robersina Moore of Bennettsville, South Carolina along with her daughter, Kim (Eddie) Jones and grands who loved papa Jack, Joe Joe and Zinnia.
